We Didn't Make Wing Commander FL (January 16, 2006)

But we have an understanding with the people who did. A new mod for Freelancer has been released. It's a spinoff of The Reckoning that replaces the ships and equipment in Freelancer with Wing Commander equivalents. The game's original storyline and universe remain the same. Wing Commander FL adds familiar fighters such as the Hornet, Sabre, Morningstar, Centurion, Bearcat and many more. The Broadsword, Crossbow, Paradigm and Concordia Class Carrier also have roles as larger craft in the game. Freelancer players set up the conversion kit via the FL Mod Manager. After installing that program, run the pack's .flmod file and use the manager to activate it. Check out the project's temporary status site for more information. You can grab the 12 meg file here.

Development of this mod came about while working on the old "Privateer: The Reckoning." That project had several bugs in it that I've been wanting to fix, and I had a couple of new and improved models.

Unfortunately, I soon began getting bug reports that were almost identical to many of the ones from The Reckoning. I decided to eliminate the ship-related bugs before proceeding any further. With a crew of beta testers, we've managed to hunt down all of the glitches that we could find. This resulted in changing many of the ships' hardpoints, adding missing hardpoints, eliminating one of the new models, and the unfortunate removal of the TCS Vesuvius. Along the way, weapons and equipment were converted over to Wing Commander gear, some Wing Commander/Privateer music was added, a new AI was developed, the ship's explosions have been reworked, and the missions have been modified to work with the Wing Commander ships.

Currently, there are only two known issues with the mod, and they're both unavoidable:
  1. Sometimes, when docking with the Carriers, your ship will bang about, forever. Simply fly past one end and try again.
  2. On computers without a good graphics card, the top texture of the Bearcat will appear white.

If ships appear to phase out occasionally during cinematics, it's a normal side-effect of Freelancer modification.

ok whom do we speak with about glitches, it seems that at a particular part, i cant advance due to either it automatically killing my wingman (without me being able to do anything,) or else just sits there and does nothing once all bogies are gone.

Very interesting indeed.

So if I understand correctly, and please forgive me for
any confusion as I am speed learning a great deal
here with this all, the Reckoning 4.65 is the playable
conversion of the Gemini Universe from Privateer into Freelancer, which had some major bugs but which are
all fixed now, AND now we have the Wing Commander
Ship Pack 2.2 released Jan 2006 which allows us to use WC ships in the Privateer Freelancer-Reckoning Conversion?

And we use the Freelancer Mod Manager to install and run it all?

I am going to wait until I get my new WIN XP sysetem up as so far my
Win 98 SE does not like Freelancer...thanks for this thread,
very interesting, ANOTHER unverse or version of one to enjoy!

thanks very much
Chris:)

Nope, they're separate. The ship pack takes the regular Freelancer game and replaces the ships with WC equivalents. That's it. The Reckoning project is a separate Privateer themed Freelancer mod that's currently on hold while the team behind it works out some kinks via the ship pack.

I believe the Ship Pack replaces some of the other things like the ship equipment and tradable commodities. However, yes, it is still compatible with the regular Freelancer campaign and allows players to use the Wing Commander ships and weapons to play Freelancer.

Thanks so much for the info, I don't want to get too mixed up between the differnt universes, and WC is my main hope and focus.....just enjoyed seeing that there were mods with WC for Freelancer, ......

I am impatient to get the WC games that I don't have, and in my Kilranthi Saga, I am missing some of the CD's it appears as they were a gift, from someone who is not a gamer, so I will have to get the full set of 5 I think it is,
.....looks like Amazon is the best bet, through Half.com. .......both WC III and IV I am eager to find......

I posted elsewhere about this, but I am hopeful that the WC mod and the Reckoning use canon in the ships and play.......

I was able to download the Reckoning on the site you gave us the link for but will wait to try to see if they have fixed the bugs....thanks for the heads up

It is compatable with the original campaign.... but it does make the game extremely difficult.

Just found my freelancer cd and installed the mod. Really good but do you have plans to replace the liberty destroyer anytime soon?

I believe that it was stated in the readme that the Liberty destroyers and battleship/carriers were left alone due to gameplay reasons--there are several scenes in the campaign in which Liberty capital ships must engage in combat, and altering them significantly would make those scenes problematic.

The carriers were replaced.
