WCPSO Tinghies...

Ghost

Emperor
I have finished to play WCPSO (first time)and have some questions.

CAPSHIPS

1)Is the bridge of the Cerberus the same of the Orca and Hydra ???
2)Is in the intro the only place to see the Midway (you can do a mission with Midway`s fighters but you can`t see her)
3)Which is the name of the Vesuvius Class ship destroyed.
4)In which year the Plunkett enters in service.
5)Why the 3 plasma cannon of the Plunkett are rigged ???, i think that if they are in different places they will be more
effective.
6)The plasma cannon of the Cerberus and Plunkett are the same of the Devastator ????
7)Why in the hull of the Cerberus isa 00, i think that should be a 01 (00=Hades).

Fighters

1) It is me or the Panther is underpowered ????drains much juice and don`t make much damage
2)In the same way i think that the Shrike is overpowered it`s far more easier to kill bugs with the Shrike that the Vampire (mmmm.... I am Trigerhappy)
3)Where is the Piranha and the Tigershark.
4)is The Dust Cannon the same of the Stormfire but without living ammo.

If anyone understands this one, please tell me!

2)Is in the intro the only place to see the Midway (you can do a mission with Midway`s fighters but you can`t see her)
You can on one of the losing path missions through Sirius.

3)Which is the name of the Vesuvius Class ship destroyed.
Ask LOAF :)

4)In which year the Plunkett enters in service.
See above!

5)Why the 3 plasma cannon of the Plunkett are rigged ???, i think that if they are in different places they will be more effective.
??

6)The plasma cannon of the Cerberus and Plunkett are the same of the Devastator ????
Yes...only a little bit smaller!

7)Why in the hull of the Cerberus isa 00, i think that should be a 01 (00=Hades).
LOAF gave a reason for this...I just can't remember

Fighters

1) It is me or the Panther is underpowered ????drains much juice and don`t make much damage
It seems underpowered if you just hold the trigger down and empty the gun pool in one go. The trick is to fire, pause, fire, pause etc. You get a much more firepower (something to do with the bugs shields)

2)In the same way i think that the Shrike is overpowered it`s far more easier to kill bugs with the Shrike that the Vampire (mmmm.... I am Trigerhappy)
Shrike blows chunks. (I always swap it for a Devastator using a ship editor)

3)Where is the Piranha and the Tigershark.
They are there, you just don't fly them in SO.

4)is The Dust Cannon the same of the Stormfire but without living ammo.
Nope. Different gun, just looks the same (similar anyway).

:)

ANSWERS TO CAPSHIPS:
1) Yes, if you got rid of the table, the computer screens and coated everything with living tissue and a healthy layer of mucus. Oh, you mean the outside of it! Then no, they're just oblong.

2) I don't think you can see her. Lose the Defend Luyten Station mission to get onto the Sirus Path.

3) It might be the St. Helens.

4) Probably '80.

5) I'm not a starship designer. But, it seems that the Plunkett was meant for something similar to old-style naval ship battles...the two ships fire broadside shots at one other.

6) I believe that the Cereberus' version is faster firing. In fact, I know it is.

7) Cereberus is the first operational Hades-class. Well, it's the first one to be fully to spec.

ANSWERS TO FIGHTERS:
1) No, the Black Panther not only has more hitting power but now has a rapid fire gun. You don't like it, exchange it for an Excalibur...you wouldn't be alone.

2) Being trigger-happy leads to low scores and eventually death (due to not having your guns when you need them). Still, I found it hard to kill fighters with the Shrike; but then, I'm no pig driver. I prefer interceptor types...going fast and hitting hard.

3) Since the Piranha is crappy and there's no sense in making a Black variant of a medium fighter, there are no Black Piranhas or Tigersharks.

4) Unfortunately, all the ammo in the Dust Cannon died under horrible, horrible circumstances. Plus they don't look similar at all. No, the Dust Cannon uses energy/matter ammo, using technology similar to mass driver ammunition.

Cap: 1) The bridge bears similarities with the Orca bridge , but not the Hydra bridge, IMO
2) I think yes.
3)Mount St.Helens
4)No idea
5)Where should they have been placed?
6)Not entirely the same, I think. Cerberus' cannon seems to fire faster. No idea about damage
7)Good question, that has been answered, but I can't remember

Fighters: 1)The Cloudburst does hefty damage, the Chain Ion sucks, though, with it's short range and low velocity. But no, it's not underpowered, IMO.
2) What? Shrike sucks. Its energy pool is far too small and the dust cannon is spread too wide. But as you like it...
3) You can see them escorting the Tereshkova, defending stations, you just can't fly them. There are no "black" versions of them apparently.
4) No, the dust cannon is an enhanced version of the Mass Driver (according to the manual). And it's the most powerful fighter gun I've seen yet. Perfect.

Capships-
1) Yes... the bridge is the command area for the ship, no matter what species you are.
2) Midway shows up in the Sirius missions (losing path).
3) TCS Mount Saint Helens (CV-71).
4) This is never stated.
5) The idea behind such large weapons is that they're used to hammer large targets -- capships or planets. By having a triple-mount weapon, all three are automatically focused at the same time. By dividing it up into three seperate guns, it's difficult to concentrate them at the same point effectively.
6) Different variations on the same theme.
7) '00' is the pre-production number... it'll be '01' (as scene in the style shot) when it's fully integrated into the fleet -- much like Vesuvius and MSH were 01 and 02, even though they were CV-70 and 71. Hades, the testbed, probably doesn't have a number.

Fighters-
1) Not in my opinion.
2) I find it hard to kill fighters in a bomber.
3) They're around -- but there are no Piranhas or Tigersharks assigned to Cerberus (thirty fighters divided by six pilots equals five types).
4) No, different concepts.

but i love swatting those bugs with the devistators plasma gun :D IMHO bombers are good anti fighter platforms, when im flying :)

I thought it was 'officially', the TCS St. Helens. Notice the absence of a Mt. beforehand. The Vesuvius was just the Vesuvius, and it seems stupid to name something like a Super-carrier a mountain :)

I think I may have heard her referred to as the TCS Mt. St. Helens, at least in the novel. She isn't referred to by the full name in the game, just like the mountain itself is often referred to only as St. Helens.

The St. Helens requires the 'Mt.' prefix so that it's not named after a Saint... which would be a big no-no. The novel properly calls it by its full name.

Yeah, I think that most religious institutes would object to a ship bearing the name of a saint being blown to the hereafter.

I would think it had more to do with being a ship of war. Im sure no one would object to much if like a cruise ship or something was named after it. And being blown up is just part of the story.

BTW (it seems like an appropriate time), there was a USS Vesuvius that fired dynamite guns in the early 1900. It was an experimental ship that saw some sevice during the Spanish-American War.

She wasn't involved in any of the major battles. Her purpose was bombardment (which, despite the great power of the main guns, was rather ineffective because of the stationary armamant) and no more Vesuviuses were built.

That's because the government doesn't name cruise ships.
