WCPEedia: Where do we stand?

Dundradal

Frog Blast the Vent Core!
So where are we with connection to WC1? We should continue to attack this project in chronological order but I have no idea how far along we've come.

For those who were working on the project before, where did you get to? What still needs to be done?

I focused on the star charts. I got all of the sectors, quadrants and systems into the site and did some fixing of tense, formatting, spelling and links, but besides that, not a whole lot.

I've randomly worked from Bondarevsky out. Quite a few articles, but a lot are placeholders. Did some work on WC1 ships and ships in general. Been uploading ship images from CIC Ships and elsewhere.

What about our WC1 guys?

I've been going through some of it (I actually prefer the layout of the CICs own ships database TBH) and have made a few alterations to some text that was confusing. For example, one sentence meant to say that Maniac and Blair are the only pilots, post Custers Carnival' to be in the all time aces list. The way it was written it sounded like Blair and Maniac were the ONLY cadets to graduate after Custers carnival :D

I've been trying to get all the ships2 info into the entries. Most of the WC1 ships and fighters are all using their exact ships2 entries. I've included the images as well, it's just a matter of finding a nice looking format.

I've infoboxed all the ships and fighters currently in. I've fixed most of the broken links for images as well.

Some of the infobox images are horrible. Think someone could grab some nicer quality images?

Also for mission write ups for the games. We've got some great summaries in the Replay weeks and should utilize those along with the various guides in creating entries. I'd appreciate if my Replay guys would join in in entering at least mission write ups. It would be greatly appreciated.

I've been randomly doing entries as well. Mostly novel stuff.

When do the rest of you guys plan to devote some time? I'd like to have a little help from my friends. :D

Are we really going to let this project sit by with no work being done?

Come on guys, there is something for everyone to contribute in this project just devote an twenty minutes and enter one thing and it's better than what you are doing now.

New Year's Resolution: To devote even more time to seeing this project through.

Don't be a bunch of lazy asses....

Hey, make up your mind. You want me to make those Standoff missions, or not? :p

Just let me know the details on how to help out with WCPedia thru a PM, and I'll do what I can to pitch in. If there are any preferences, requests, etc let me know as well.

You know what you have to do. :p

Everybody else though, instead of waiting for Q and Company to finish Ep5, devote your time to finishing out WC1 and then we'll move onto SM1.

Check the entries to see areas that need to be filled out. If you don't have WC1, work on a WC product you do have. Start at the manual and just fill in entries. Pick a point and go.

I started at Jason Bondarevsky and have added entries out from there. Hell, even help clean up entries (make them all look nice) or help with templates. Anybody can pitch in in any way. Just communicate what you want to work on and then start making entries. Look at the ones already in there for the standard formats and the like.

I'm glad to see so many enthused though, perhaps LOAF could step in with exactly where he is on the WC1 area and other regards of this project.

Quick question, should we keep the quotes around the titles of pilots we only know the callsigns of? I'm working on disambiguation pages and was wondering if seaching for Bishop should lead to "Bishop" or if "Bishop" should just be renamed Bishop.

Also, did we reach a consensus on how the year/date pages would be organized? I could get to work on that right away if only I knew what I was supposed to do.

I think so, that way they don't get mixed in with people with similar names and we know they are just callsigns.

As for the year/date thing, I'm not sure. Bump the thread again so we can get more discussion on it.

Ok, yeah, I was thinking about it, the callsigns being in quotes makes sense.

I think that callsigns should always have quotes around them - there are a few instances where this will otherwise become confusing (ie, Lt. Hunter in Action Stations versus Ian "Hunter" St. John in Wing Commander I).

That said, your specific example is a good example of how the thing should evolve - since once we come to the movie we will be able to provide Bishop with his full name (Adam Polanski).

See the 'Categories and other things' thread for my comments on this.
