WCP: Multi

212 Squadron - "The Old Man's Eyes And Ears"
Um, this is me being a complete jerk but considering the amount of talented programmers we have on this board and the amount of great fanprojects in the works, why doesn't someone write a multiplayer patch for WC:P? Admittedly, thats a huge undertaking, but I think (think, mind you) it's possible! Anyone?

you know what happens to jerks here

actually that might be a good idea. if its possible

Actually, LOAF said that we'd need the WC:P source code to make a MP patch. :( He also said it would've taken the WC:P team an extra 6 months to write the MP option! :(

That's actually what the team thought it would take... so it isn't just something that LOAF kinda made up, or anything.

Just a thought, could'nt someone suggest a MP option to the Unknown Enemy team???? I agree 6 months is a long time, however I think a wait of 6 months is better than never?? :)

Well without the Source code EVERYTHING in Prophecy unfortunatley takes a long time, there is no reason for Origin to have not released the mission editor but they didn't so there is nothing we can do.
I think Wing Commanders best hope of multiplayer lies with Vega Strike, in an interview I did with Tiger Shark at the WCDC I asked him about where he saw multiplayer in VS going and he gave a lot of useful info.
So assuming Unknown Enemy releases episode 2 or 3 it will probably have multiplayer because the Vision engine is a real pain to code for and as soon as a suitable alternative is avialable such as Vega Strike all future projects will be moved there.

The problem with making a multiplayer patch for Prophecy is that without the source even with HCls talents it would be near impossible, not to mention the fact that the engine its self is already beggining to look out of date.

Sorry guys :) For now the wczone offers 2d WC multiplayer or you can have a 2 player WC Armada game.

Yeah the sad fact is that the Prophecy engine is old, very old in terms of todays graphic engines.

Oh well it looks like VS is our last best hope for a WC multiplayer game (blatent rip-off of B5 there) :)

It will always look great, to me WCIV still looks as amazing as the first day I played it
until you compare it against modern engines :(

Don't worry. It's so with allo old games. Just look at the Commodore 64 games. There you get a shock for life playing them again.

I´ve played Prophecy in software mode, D3D and 3dfx and
I agree that even now those graphics are very good. I´ve played almost every major space sims that came out since then and I have to say, the Origin Dev Team made a hell of a job. The only game that took my breath since WC:P was a little gem called Echelon (or Storm, depending in wich country you are), that someone described as "Comanche meets Wing Commander". You can see it in:

That's right Tovarich, it's a russian company...)

I just played WC3, WC4 and WCP with my new monitor and speakers (yay!!!) Hey, I have a right to be happy, I had a 14" monitor and SB16 speakers for the last 7 years!

Anyway, WCP still looks great! WCIV's vid is still good, but WCIII's looked quite shocking. Graphics in game are still fairly good though a bit dated, especially compared to WCP. (Haven't had time to buy anything in the last two years!)

BTW, Shooter, is Echelon any good? I finished Tachyon, which was enjoyable, and now I'm looking for some other I-wish-this-was-Wing-Commander game.
