WCP mission types

I just found out my wcp manual is completelly awol, but I need a little info out of it and i was hoping someone here could gimme a help

Can anyone list me the types of missions listed in the wcp manual? you know, like BARCAP, CAP, etc, and if possible what do they mean?

I believe they are listed before the ships (or in the ship lists)

thanks in advance

K

They're relatively unimportant since the mission briefing tells you all you need to know about the upcoming mission, but from what I remember off the top of my head:

CAP: Combat Aerospace Patrol
Hawk uses the "archaic" term "air", obviously for the sake of the acronym, but I think this sounds better. :)

BARCAP: Barrier CAP
TARCAP: Targetted CAP
I can't remember exactly what they mean, but the words pretty much describe them, anyway. [There was also one other CAP I can't remember]

There was also the regular mission types: Escort, Strike, Intercept, etc and there was also the 'Wild Weasel' (I forgot the formal name for that) where fighters escorting bombers had to remove capship turrets and shield emitters.

FORCAP (Forward Combat Air Patrol) - Escort, Recon
TARCAP (Targeted Combat Air Patrol) - Wild Weasel (air defense suppression), strike, anti-ship
BARCAP (Barrier Combat Air Patrol) - Blockade, counter-air, bombing missions.

what i wanted was really those names. I know they dont use it directly in the game. its was more about something Im working on related to my rpg

but is those all? I thought there were more...

Thay covers pretty much anything.... Victory Streak has more specific mission types, if you'd like.

If someone (or myself) were to type up the ICIS manual, could you (TC) or someone else make an online manual the same way as you did for Claw Marks with all the TLC lavished on that?

[Bah, just realised there'd be a major problem with different regions' versions of the manual, not to mention the changes/additions in the Gold manual. :(]

Thats kind of a cool idea Wedge. I wouldn't think differences in the manuals would be too hard to overcome. Just make it an all inclusive online guide to WCP and SO.

Well, since there are online manuals for WC1, WC2, and WC3, I think it only makes sense to try making one for WCP/SO. The WC4 manual doesn't really count :), though I suppose that one will be even easier to put online than the ICIS manual.

It might be nice to make an online manual for the Kilrathi Saga. Course most of the important stuff is already in the other three manuals. Still having everything you need to know available at one link rather than three seperate links would be much more convenient. I probably dreamin though cause who would want to take the time to combine everything into one easy to use manual. (hint, hint);)

I've previously started making ICIS... but some of the formatting was annoying and I got fed up. I'll probably start work on it again after I've done my Provincial Exams in June. I may redo the WC2 one as well, as it's just an automatically converted PDF, and not up to the quality of Claw Marks.

Online manuals galore!

So, AFAIK, there are:

TC's Claw Marks and WC2 manuals, a WC3 manual from Russia, and Jetlag's Voices of War which are available online.

If anyone cares, I've put up the Privateer manual which I had on my 'classics' Privateer CD, and I also made an attempt at the WC Academy manual.

I spent last night typing up the WCA manual instead of doing my work. :( My copy of WCA came in a bundle, so I don't know how complete the manual is (the author makes reference to "suggested attack strategy for capital ships in the back of this manual"). Also, when I was (much) younger, I stupidly scribbled over some of the stats, thinking they were incorrect (and many of them are!), so there may be the odd mistake here and there. Also, there aren't any pictures in my manual, so don't bag me out just because it looks bare (this is my first HTML, amazingly).

Thank you very much. :(

I'll try to get pics from the sprites later. I could be lazy and just steal them from the Ships Database but I don't think Kris and Crid would like that. They're yucky JPEGs anyway. :)

So, does anyone else know if there was supposed to be more to the Academy manual? Or am I wasting my time and a WCA manual is already up somewhere?

Let's just all look at this!

Knowing that Classic versions of the games come with electronic manuals, I thought "gee, I should go find one of those electronic manuals." Now, since I don't have a Classic version of WCA, I went to #wingnut and asked

<TC^> anyone here have Academy Classic?

Now, people pondered this, and after a moment Weasel kindly replied:

<WildWeasel> I do.

We discussed this for a moment and confirmed the existance of a PDF. After a somewhat accidental reboot on Weasel's part and some discussion of Duck Tales I recieved a copy of the file and placed it up for download here: http://www.blacklance.org/WCA/manual.pdf

Aww, I feel ripped off, that one is so much more complete.

Oh well, so I wasted last night, but at least that doesn't mean I have to waste any more time on it. :)

[Okay, before I start typing it up, is there a online WC4 manual (such as it is)?]
