WC4 Soundtrack?

TheFraix

Vice Admiral
I've been surfing around the Napster recently, and I've picked up 5 tracks of different WC4 songs.

01 - Main Title, Space Ambush and Combat
02 - The Borderworlders
03 - Telemon, the Dead Planet,
04 - Blair and Tolwyn Preparing for Battle
05 - ?
06 - Confronting Tolwyn, War Averted, Tolwyn's Death

I couldn't find the fifth track...

but hey, doesn't this suggest somekind of soundtrack CD?

I think the one you`re missing is a theme called "So, you think you`ve won..." I counted 6 or 7 themes from that alleged soundtrack. I wonder where they originate.

From his description, this doesn't sound like the ingame music. Could this be the music from the cutscenes?? That would be very cool.

But indeed, where did they get this? Off some CD? I want it...

This is not in-game music, it`s cutscene themes. They were recorded at higher quality too 44.1 Khz, instead of your normal 22.05, the in-game themes are recorded at.

The CIC doesn`t have these themes.

Man... I'm willing to pay good money or set up a bounty for any information about that soundtrack. Anyone willing to contact George Oldziey, ask him about this? It is definitely his composition. Just ask about information.

If that fails, we can try to scourge some data from the WC4 credits... say like the music director and so on.

Where do they come from?

There was no commercial soundtrack -- I'll update the CIC as soon as they're available for download at BL.org.

Some ideas

My life is movie scores. I have CDs that shouldn't exist. You name anything by David Arnold from Young Americans to a 2cd set of Independence Day and Tommorrow Never Dies to the rejected score to Alien to...well...a whooooole lotta cr*p, ok?

The WC4 cut-scene score coulda come from any number of places. People in Origin from Oldziey himself (out of frustration of not getting a CD release?) to the lowliest intern with a bad temper or a WC fixation are the best bet, since the quality is so high. Also, possibly, someone got their hands on Oldziey's composer's portfolio. God know's, I call up/email/snail mail people all over for portfolios since almost all come with a CD sampler of their work. Sometimes, you don't even have to give credentials.

I'm pretty sure there's no ripping software out there that would be able to seperate the score from the FX/speech overlayed, since Origin takes the score DAT tapes and runs it over the dub of the voices and the sound FX matte to create a single-dual (surround) sound file.

Consider yourself lucky that the quality of the MP3s are so nice. I have unreleased scoring to Conan the Barbarian that sounds as bad as a wave hitting a beach head at high tide.

I've found all five known tracks now, and am uploading them to BlackLance.org... let me know what else you find.

Well... here's a hint to notice the differences between the inflight/game music and the soundtracks we're looking for.

1. Their quality... the soundtrack music was suppose to be 44,100 hz I believe. The rip offs are 22,050 hz.
2. Their length... I think it should be a little bit longer... and no WC4 inflight music is longer than 2 minutes. I first notice those soundtracks from their noticable length.

Awesome. Even more reason for my ISP to regret giving me that flat rate connection. I was logged on for nearly five days straight to download the WC series. :D

Best, Raptor

Huzzah!! The tracks are excellent! Thanks, Le Hah / TheFraix and LOAF and whoever else!

Now if only we could find that missing track 5...
