I was checking on the ships database and saw the Arrow and Thunderbolt fighters being listed on the side of the Border Worlds. I can't remember anywhere in the game where Border Worlders fly these ships. Is this a mistake on the ships database, or can someone reference where this happens in the game?

They don't use them in the game, but the initial version of the ships database did a very basic job of merging in-game and in-universe content. Ships2 would just mention each game's specific stats and then talk about universe connections in text. Both Thunderbolts and Arrows are aboard the Intrepid at some point in the novel.

All the more reason they should of been player flyable in game. I guess that would of been to many ships. Ill get over it.... one day..

It would have been cool to come to the Intrepid and get to fly one of the Rapiers, Arrows, Thunderbolt(for the 2(3?) missions it lasted), or even a sabre.

But I think due to space constraints (6cds) they really couldnt afford to add all the ships they wanted to.

The space on the CD was consumed by massive amounts of 1996-compressed video. Allowing players to fly the Arrow would have required almost zero additional space, since the craft were already in the game and they wouldn't have even had to include cockpit art. It comes down to a stylistic and gameplay choice though. WC fans would love a game with dozens of fighters, but usually there's not a case to build many in, because the ships start to lose identity and players get confused.

Good point. I thought that Star Lancer had offered an impressive array of fighters, although, I unfortunately lost interest in most of them because there was no major discernable difference between them. Instead of offering 4-6 really quality fighters, we got 10-12 semi-similar fighters.

That also happened in Freelancer most of the ships seemed like just another upgrade. That and the speed was the same with all the ships so there seemed to be little difference between a freighter and a scout ship.

I'm willing to bet that they left the player the two 'boring' WC3 ships intentionally -- you were supposed to defect, not stick around and enjoy all the cool toys.
