WC2, SO2 first mission

Hobbie

Spaceman
Ok, I start SO2 and watch the opening cutscene, load a character and then start the mission. It goes through talking to the base operator and she says to escort the prison ship. After the last thing is said the game cuts off to windows and the choices for WC2 games appear. I am not sure what to do. Thanks for any help.

P.S. Is there an easy way to beat the last mission of S01? I always get killed by the anti-matter guns. There is no way to avoid them during a torpedo lock.

I'll start with SO1. That mission is indeed quite hard, but I don't really have that much trouble with the two Fralthra. It's usually Bear that shoots me in the back, the little bugger

. Anyway, get out to about 14000 away from (both) Fralthra when trying to get target lock. Shut down your engines, and wait until you get lock (or close to it). Then, start moving towards the capital ship, making gentle course corrections so that you don't lose lock, but the Fralthra still fires in the wrong direction. Once the first AMG blast sweeps past, hit the burners. At 3000, fire torpedo, turn around, and burn away. Rinse, lather, repeat.

As for SO2... well, does that happen every time? KSaga does have a few annoying bugs, and kicking you out of WC2 at totally random times is one of them...

Good point about Bear. Yes it does this every time and I am playing KSaga (no problems until now). I tried about 6 times using different ways to try to pass the cutscene but it never worked.

Hobbes shots me down in that mission more than anyone else...

Or, you can target the Fralthra, select any missile other than a torp (chaff also works) fly away till you're at a safe distance from those two ships, stop, turn around, and select the torp. It should start locking on while you're at a safe distance. Than you can fly towards the Fralthras and turn slightly every few seconds.

Those AMGs are really nasty, aren't they?

IIRC, the relevent distances to take into account are as follows:
- AMG firing range: 10.000 clicks,
- AMG locking range: 11.000 clicks,
- Torp lock range 12.000 clicks.

I think those distances are correct although I haven't played SO1 for quite some time now.

Actually, you can lock a torpedo at any range, as long as you have the target in your VDU.

Hobbie: Try uninstalling (all of KSaga), restart the computer, and reinstall. Of course, if you want to save any save games, you have to copy them somewhere else first.

No you can’t. If that was posible that mission would be much easier than it is. The torp lock range is somewhere between 12,000-10,000 clicks, something like what Nighthawk said.

Ok, so to copy save games, what files do I copy from each game? And then once I reinstall do I just move them back into the files? Thanks for your help.

From WC1:
savegame.wld
savegame.wbk (it might not even be there; don't worry about it too much)
crusade.wld (if you've played SM 2}

From WC2:
savegame.wc2
savegame.so1
savegame.so2 (this one obviously won't be there
wink.gif
)

From WC3:
Dunno. I got no idea
smile.gif
. But I'm guessing that you haven't played this one yet anyway
smile.gif
.

And yes, after you reinstall, just copy them back into the gamedat directory for each games (be sure not to get them confused

). And pray that that will be enough to get SO2 to work properly, for that indeed is all that I can think of...

Earthworm: I've gotten torpedo lock at 15000 and more, and I do so quite frequently. Naturally, you have to have the target locked into your vdu first, so you'll have to do the missile selecting thingy that you described earlier on. Anyway, this was particularly important in the Talbot System mission, where that Ralatha was very insistent on closing the gap.

The WC3 files should be called XXXXXXXX.wsg or something. That's what they're called in WC4, but IIRC it's the same way as in WC3.

I could never get a lock at more than 12,000. So my way is the only one that worked for me, since the Fralthras would turn and fire the Anti Matter at me before I got the torp lock.

The WC3 and 4 files are correct, but I don't think they will be available if you uninstall, reinstall and copy them into place. At least it never worked for me.

Well, I'm glad it worked for you, Hobbie. Because I really didn't think it would.

DH, if it doesen't work I think it's probably because there's another file that you need to have. I think that in WC4 it's Sfosaved.dat, though I'm not sure.

For WC3/4 the copying saved games usually works for me if I move two other files besides the 000000xx.wsg files, too. They are:

-sfosaved.dat and
-wsg_ndx.wsg.
