WC2/SO1/SO2 under a dos box

Alright!

I got myself the WC2 combo.
And I was able to make it work under a dos box almost right out of the bat. The problem is, the cutscenes go way too fast, and end up out of sync with the speech.

Any slowdown recomndations? Stinger?

Use MoSlo or Turbo. I think either will do fine... or maybe Turbo is better, since you're in Windows. They're both in the Files section.

Well, I recently got WC1 to work in the Windows DOS box and tried Mo'Slo and Turbo. I chose Turbo. The game is a little less jerky with it. But the movements of the fighters are still annoyingly jumpy!

Well, speaking of WC1, I still couldn't play it even placing Moslo at 1%. I tried some ways to stack one moslo on top of another but they didn't work. So I used BOTH moslo and turbo at the same time. And that worked somewhat. Got the game almost playable. But still the only way of surely killing the Kats was using that (ugh) infamous ALT-DEL.

But now I'm trying to start SM2, but can't get sound to work, and the pilot transfer program just gives me the boot...er...crash.

Oh, and one thing. The only medals in WC1 are those bronze, silver, gold stars and that medal of valor?

Say what? That's highly unusual. Usually, if I use MoSlo at 10%, it's already too slow.

There is one more medal - the Golden Sun - that you get for ejecting (but only once).

The "correct" Mo'Slo setting is different for every machine; I'd bet that if klaus switched off the CPU cache in his BIOS, Mo'Slo would work much better. Klaus: do NOT do this unless you know what you are doing, and ALWAYS remember to turn it back on before going back to Windows!

That difference must be because the K6-3 is a tad different from the other CPUs, I think. And I know about turning the cache off. I did that before but I just plain didn't like to have to fiddle with the BIOS setup every time I was going to play a game.

How about my SM2 problem? SM2 must be searching for some sort of config file that it doesn't find. WC1 and SM1 always say "loading INSTALL.DAT..." on startup, but SM2 doesn't...

Another question:

There's a mission in SM1 where some marines have captured a dralthi and you have to escort it to the Tiger's Claw. No matter if I bring the Dralthi home or not, I get the failure music and the commander calls me sloppy on the next briefing, putting me along with Spirit.

Did you do the mission exactly as you were told to? Did you kill all the ships you were supposed to?

BTW, did you ever try going back through that first nav?

That must be it. But the guy says to avoid coming thru there, Or is it that I misunderstood the briefing? Doh!

Thanks, Quarto.

Ps.: how about the mission where you first see the Sivar. The Col. says to get camera information. But as soon as I get near tthe thing, it jumps out. In the debriefing I get the failed music again, but the guy says that they got the data. For the looks of it, I should have destroyed it , but how if I caný get near.

No, no!

You most definitely do NOT go back through that nav point! You'll be dead before you even know what's happening! I was just wondering if you tried going there, because it's a very, very interesting place

.

You can't destroy the Sivar, nor can you get any closer. It's supposed to jump out. And don't worry about the music

But you'll only get th sucess music if you destroy the force that appears at Nav 1 on the way back.

That's odd, considering that you're not required to destroy that strike force (fleet, more like it

). At least, I didn't have to, and nobody called me sloppy
