WC1 SNES help

I'm not sure anyone understands the question - what part of the game are you trying to access with a password?
 
on the SNES version, when you get to the "Start" or "Continue" screen, you click "Continue"...it asks you for your handle, which mine is MAVERICK, then a password. In the manual, it says the password is related to your handle...but I haven't seen anything about passwords in any of the game.
 
After completing each series of the game, it should generate a password for you. You input that password to 'continue' later on. (Ie, once you get to the McAuliffe system it'll give you a code to jump straight there).
