WC1: Migrating to secret missions

Groundrunner

Spaceman
Hi there :)

I just finished the WC1 game (Vega sector). I even struggled so that I kill all ships and win the medal of Valor, which after several retries and must fustration, I eventually did.

The problem is that after you finish the game and see the ending cutscene, there is no option to save your "status" again.

So when I installed the SM and converted the last save game according to the instructions, I tried to load it... and saw that it was in the state of the last savegame, right before the final mission. No medal of Valor!!

Did I do somethjing wrong? IS there a way to import your progress after the final mission, with the medal of Valor, score and all?

Unfortunately you can't keep the Medal of Valor after the Vega Campaign as there's no option to save after beating Venice. You could use the Wing Commander 1 Save game editor to give yourself the medal at the start of SM1.

Alternately, I think you get a chance to win the Medal one more time at some point during the Secret Missions - although I can't remember for sure.

While you're giving yourself the medal, remember to add in all your kills! A total count of all the enemy ships can be found in the game guides section... it's a rather hefty chunk. Also, the medal is re-earned towards the very end of SM2, where it's more difficult to get. Anyone know if it affects anything to have one twice?

I just carried my rank over to the next campaign. I was a bit surprised over the SM2 kill count since a number of missions are in that underwhelming Dralthi.

Question: when I got to download the save game editor I found other interesting files. One of them is an obscure and undocumented "Unpacked MODULE.000 file"

Well, what's this for? what does it do?

PS. The file "Brief intro animation [FTP] (1 MB) - by Cyberion, Details" should go below, to the WC2 section :)

Module.000 is the file that contains all the info for the missions and briefings and talking for the Vega campaign
I believe Module.001 and module.002 are for the secret missions.
Must get back to doing that editor. Damn my lazyness.
