WC1 cruiser design

Lynx

Spaceman
In my free time I tried to create a heavy cruiser in the WC1 design lineage. It looks a bit like the TigersClaw, I never could get away from her beauty. It lacks details and texturing and a hangar bay, but the basic shape is already done.

It's one of my first models I created, so don't judge too hard on it.:)

Anyway, here is it:

If you'd like a suggestion to curb the 'copy' look, you could widen the section where the superstructure (bridge, etc) is. This could also allow for more weapons mounts/minor fighter bays (everything has fighters in WC!). Just some thougts.

Just noticed something, but the front looks pre-WC1 (isn't that what the ships in WC3 were?). It makes it look like a trasition design from the older, simpler designs, to the more complex mid-war ones.

Good job. Find a skinner and a coder and you could import it into a game maybe.

It's a pretty good design!! ;)

Got the same thought! It just adds to the charms of Lynx's design! :D

Actually, I had the same thought with the pre WC1 design. It will only have only one fighter bay and limited fighter compliment (about 40 fighters or so).
I'm trying to make the texturing too look like pre WC1 (like the Claws green-gray paintjob, but I'll replace the green with something grey-bluish, what about that?)

looks nice

2 questions: where would the fighters launch from and what the hell are those 2 hexagon (sp?) shaped things on the side of her

also, i'd also add a bit more big guns. you could put them on the wings so they would still be able to shoot forward, but she would have some firepower that can shoot aft

I myself don't really know what these things on the side are; I just added them for the good looks, the WC1 destroyer has something similar, I think. Maybe they are reactors or shield generators or something.
As for the fighterbay and the big guns, remember, it's unfinished. I'll still add them. I just wanted to get out the basic model and see if its liked or not.

Anyway, I don't even have a name for this class of cruiser, someone?

Is it for a game? Why not make a higher poly version of it. :)

What software are you using? It looks like you forgot to turn on your anti aliasing.

Cool stuff! We need more people to do some 3D WC art here!

Dug up some WW2 *British* cruiser class names. Here are the better sounding ones, IMO:

Cornwall
York
Hawkins
Leander
Perth
Belfast
Dido
Fiji
Adventure

Personally I like the look of the 5 sided hexes on the side, but I agree more poly's are in order when ya get towards a final design.

Thanks!

I'm thinking of using it in a game when I finish it, so it's relativly low-poly, but I'm still adding details. I'm using Truespace.

cruiser armament

The armament will be:
1x Triple heavy neutron cannon
5x Twin heavy neutron cannons
10x Twin turreted laser
3x turreted long range laser
2x fore torpedo tubes
1x aft torpedo tubes
2x FF missile launcher

Fighter compliment: 24

Is this sufficient for a pre WC1 cruiser? Or is it too much/ not enough? Suggestions?

Maybe swap the long-range-lasers for a couple point-defense lasers. Ya know, the ones that only exist in the novel. :p

I would suggest adding in a couple of CapMiss launchers, and upping the torpedo tubes, remember that the Tigers Claw had 40.

scrap the long range laser, she has fighters for that kind of work, and add some point defense lasers, add at least 2 CSM launchers, up the torp launchers to at least 10 forward and 4 aft, and up the FF missile launchers to at least 4

btw, she got a name yet?

Since I'll try to use it in a game, your sugggestions would be an overkill.:) That thing could kill anything with one salvo.

However, I'll take the point defense lasers, and add one CSM launcher, and double the amount of fore and aft torpedo tubes.

I'd like her to have the name TCS Iron Duke, how do you like that?

I agree, this would make look closer to the Exeter, almost as if the cruiser is sort of a bridge between the Exeter and the Bengal.

That thought crossed my mind too. At has the look of the bow of a WC3 transport, but with turret mounts on top.
