While I'm building the concepts of an RPG from scratch right now, the hardest part is deciding which era to place it in. The era will determine the overall look and feel of the game, so I've decided to stop fiddling my thumbs and let a poll decide which Winc Commander Era I should work in.

Of course, primarily you should choose an era that you enjoy the most, since it should inspire you to put in enough work to carry it through to completion. Also, your enthusiasm for it will translate into the quality of the RPG that you come out with. That being said, I like the WC3 era- though I've only played WC3 and 4.

I maybe be crazy, but the WC RPG may see more than 1 WC era

My favorite WC time had to be around Action Stations and WC3. But I decided on using a poll because it would provide an interesting method of solving my timeline dilemma. After a week or two, I'll make a final decision on the time period and begin work on the game.

For me the time period doesn't matter, I've got a large well of info at the CIC and LOAF so building the RPG world won't be a problem.

Edit: Hopefully this will be my last edit, but I purposely staying away from the Wing Commander Movie style/setting, that Rapier gives me bad ulcers.

Now now, it's not THAT bad... I hope.

My chief problem with it:

It was small... so small I expected to pull it out of a cereal box. I still wonder how they could cram everything, electronics, armor, etc. inside it.

You do have a good point. Compared to the very large specifications for the game fighters the CF-117 was pretty small. But that doesn't make it BAD does it? I thought that the idea had great potential. A retro/futuristic fighter. It was great as a signature design, though I think that there should have been a slightly healthier balance between the two aspects.

It seems that alot of folks would love to see things prior to wc1, well it explains my project of writing a fan-fic many years before wc1. We have seen what has happen during WC1-Prophecy but we know so little about prior to those things.
We can write so much inbetween the events between the 5 games but we can have so much prior to 1. Like is is about a good 20 odd years or something. That is a lot of things that could be written about

Henceforth why I refer to it as the 'Cracker Jack' fighter. If it had been somewhat bigger, then I wouldn't be treating as dirt. Though I liked the talking computer, Merlin.

Eh, the Rapier is only small in that it's not rediculously oversized in Joan's -- a 50 meter long Lance class fighter would be a lot larger than anything we see in cutscenes.

It's hard to say that it's *too* small, since the prop is literally a real jet fighter.

My vote was for WC1 and previous.

It had just the sort of rough-edged, smallscale feel that would be great for an RPG.

Nanotechnology? We know nanobots existed in WC4. Just a thought.
