ok guys, after reviewing those images I want to know. Who wants to help me make those ships? I'll put em in WC:Universe. Any help at all from artists would be appreciated.
There is a weird sort of Star Wars vibe to some of the work. I do like the Dralthi best it does fit in best with the Kat style, though the furball freighters aren't to bad either.
And the WC3/4 cap ships aren't exactly the same as WC1/2 cap ships. But they're all canon. Personaly I think they should have just resurrected all the used classes, cap and fighter. How many ships total would that be?
I mean why make new, when you can just recycle in full 3D, GF4 powered glory? But then again, seeing as how it was scrapped a long time ago, it's a rather moot point isn't it?
As far as Confed ships go, it makes sense to have civilian vessels with exposed mechanicals, which are already somewhat evident in the freighter models from WC3 on. UBW vessels might have a similar look, mostly due to the fact that the UBW doesn't have enough cash to build a proper navy, and might be willing to cut corners.
But Confed navy vessels have always had armor plating covering pretty much everything. The exposed mechanicals are an entirely different look for Confed navy that doesn't really seem to fit much.
I have already constructed the dralthi, a kilrathi freighter, and a kilrathi cruiser based on those designs. NONE of the confed ships really looks confed but I plan to make a few of them. If any of the cxonfed ships end up in wc onilne it'll probably be as mandarin or private craft. The wc1/2 ships look too cartoonish, and the 3/4 ships are probably too low poly, hence for WC online they probably would have been looking to make ships which would be high poly eyecandy compared to the ships in the other WC games.
I only like a few of the human ships from those sketches. Most of them look sleek but still have all those fragile looking exposed hull parts so I think that, as someone already pointed out, they look more fitting as civilian ships than Confed ships...
The cruisers all look too heavy, IMHO, though two of them (can't remember which ones) really have potential to look like something I'd instantly recognize as Wing Commander if a couple of changes were made here and there. All in all, I liked these sketches. I think the majority of the fighters would be most appropriate as civilian ships from the 80's-90's, while the Kilrathi ships would fit anywhere from WC3 onwards, and the confed cruisers, well, I don't know about those
The border world fighters are very odd. Kind of like a cross between star trek, star wars and the Eldar from warhammer 40k.
Now I'm going to get flamed by people who actually know star wars beyond the films
Some of those Border Worlds ships look Kilrathi-esque. I particularly like the Paktan/Banshee hybrid (middle box, upper left, top two)!
I think the Kilrathi designs are spot on. However, most of the Border Worlds' and all of Confed's ships have no "Wing Commander," feel to them. In fact, they're extremely "Colony Wars: Red Sun," in design....
