WC on PSP or DS?

I haven't heard anything, but it seems to me that a new WC game, or a remake of an older one would be a great development idea for EA. The format of the game makes for quick, 5-10 minute levels which are great for handhelds, online modes would fit in well, and there is definitely a dedicated fan base. Now if we could just get their attention...

This sounds like a great idea! Know what else sounds like a great idea? JETPACKS! And shooting the elderly into the sun! And cloning Holly Gagnier!

You know about Wing Commander Prophecy for the Game Boy Advance, right? EA itself isn't interested in developing a Wing Commander game for handhelds. I don't think you can do anything more to get their attention than developing and selling a handheld Wing Commander game.

i would get that game like the world is going to end. (i know it sounds corny but it's the best i can do with lack of food.)

It's not corny so much as it doesn't make any sensel.

Prophecy for GBA is not bad for a portable game system.

A handheld does not have the opt for a flightstick/throttle,
I'd rather see another full-size console game.

Oh, EA is definitely interested, but you're right. They aren't going to take it upon themselves to develop a handhold game. They will, however, listen very intently to someone else who wants to:
A.) Develop the game
B.) Market the game
C.) Distribute the game
D.) Pay them an advance fee
E.) Pay them a percentage of the game profits.

One thing I have found out is that if you are willing to do all that, EA is definitely interested. I don't have the kind of money to finance such an endeavour and I don't think anyone else here does so this is where we sit. If someone here knows a small game developer who would be interested in creating a Wing Commander game (hand held, PC or console etc) and wouldn't mind fronting some money towards that end then let me know and I'd definitely be willing to talk to them on how to obtain EA's permission to use the WC franchise, but it's still going to require them undertaking all of the above.

It wouldn't be cool to play WC games without a joystick. It feels strange. I tried it with a mouse and keyboard and its no fun.

Prophecy Advance isn't bad for a Wing Commander game at all. It looks sharper than a lot of Playstation/Nintendo 64 titles. If it had the storage space to include the speech and videos, it'd outclass all PS1 and most PS2 space sims, with the possible exception of WC3/4.

Which is exactly what I said. :) They're not interested in developing their own handheld WC game.

I didn't get my first real joystick until after they stopped making new Wing Commander games.

What I know, my cousin got one and constantly hassled me to find him good gmes for the platform, but the games being released really didn't do the machine any justice but I do live in britain and retailers overhere didn't really give any support to any 32bit console until the ps1 came out

Most PS1 and PS2 games are easy to forget for me. Only a few stand out well.

so maybe we're looking at it wrong. there are a lot of homebrew apps being developed for the psp, perhaps someone could make a loader for iso dumps of wing commander games. it does after all have the graphical capabilities, and the analog stick.

That gets more into PSP community stuff. Pretty few people here actually have PSPs, and I don't think any of us know anything about PSP modification aside from using applications that have already been developed. On the chance that someone here did know about that kind of stuff, they'd be developing for a limited audience. It'd be limited further by firmware upgrades that future games will require in order to play. So I don't really see that as being too viable a direction.

I was REALLY impressed with WCPA (got it just a couple of weeks ago, used). If you factor in the tiny screen, it looks more or less like WCP in software mode. Great job, really.

I still didn't get the controls, though. Just a matter of adaptation. I wouldn't complain if they made WCPDS or something, and maybe the analog thingy in the PSP is even more suited ofr WC gaming.

But I'd rather get a new PC WC with all the bells and whistles that DX9.0c, OpenGL 2.0 and Shader Model 3.0 offer. The great Nexus is just a taste of what could be done with current hardware.

Anyways, is there a way of using FULL GUNS in WCPA? using just lasers or just ions is kinda lame.
