WC I...newbie needs help...

Scorpio

Spaceman
Well, here I am, flying around in my Scimitar, and I have this mission - escort a Drayman transport to the Claw - and I never get to save the transport...any ideas??

Weeeell... CTRL + ALT + DEL, and do something else... :)

Which mission is it? WC1? Secret Missions1? 2?
What type of opposition do you encounter?

My advice would be: never get drifted too far from the 'sport you're protecting...
Claw Marks says no more than 5,000 clicks, that's a fair distance...
Always keep an eye on the fighters attacking the ship you're protecting, usually some go straight after you, others engage the 'sport...

Ignore the ones engaging you, and attack in priority the others...

Don't rely too much on your wingman, he gets the job done too slowly usually...

Final advice... you can try destroying one fighter on the first head-on... afterburn to them, engage, and spot the ones heading towards the 'sport... you can easily nail them from behind!! :D

Good luck and Godspeed!

Not giving much information, are you?

From which series?!! WC? or the Secret Missions?

And what types of enemy fighters do you encounter? My memory is playing tricks on me... :)

Hi!I have another question.Did anyone beat the mission in WC1 when you have to defend a captured Ralari being attacked by 4 Gratka?I never did...

Lots of us have had problems with that one, Skybolt... ;)

I managed to beat it with the original version of WC1... but with Kilrathi Saga, "no could do"... :(

You can usually spot the Drayman on the nav map if you get separated.

I've got KS, and I never managed to save the Ralari. And by the way, it's Gratha, not Gratka.

Well, thanks!I played the original and KS and never managed to beat it.Can you tell me what happens when you beat it?Do you continue to fly Rapiers in Black Lion or you get Raptors when jump in Rostov? It would be nice to see Iceman fly Rapier (as he said "a true artist ship").

Never could see the difference between k and h in that funky font. But thanks!Guess that's why the manual is for...

If you beat that mission, you don't fly to Rostov... you go straight to Venice... and you'll never get to fly with Iceman in the Vega campaign... :(

Now that I think of it, maybe that's why the designers made that Ralari mission so hard: they wanted us to fail it, so that we could fly with Iceman, and get some extra missions, no? :)

I heard that it was one of the missions they wrote hard in order to make sure it wasn't a free ride all the way to Venice.

And maybe so that you could have the "fun" of dodging asteroids in Rostov...

But people who complain about getting more missions to play, should really be locked up forever... :)

It's the third escort mission...
Where you encounter Bhurak Starkiller? Destroy the regular Salthis first and always take a look at which one is attacking the Drayman. Deal with Bhurak at the end but try to get him quickly because he tends to run away when heavily damaged and in a Scimitar it's hard to catch up. ;)
That's the way I do it anyway, might work for you too.

mpanty, funny now that you mention it, it's true: I've never flown with Iceman in WC1. I always thought you only avoid Maniac as wingman.

Nope, catching up is impossible... a Salthi simply ABs faster than a Scimitar...
You have to get him while he's dogfighting, not while he's fleeing, scared like a wet kitten... ;)

Ehm, I think you can fly with Maniac in WC1, if you absolutely want to... in the systems of Hubble's Star and Hell's Kitchen I think... (though LOAF might certainly be able to tell you for sure)

The mission tree and the wingmen (for WC1) are listed in the Secret Missions booklets, IIRC...

I'm not at home right now, so I couldn't chek the wingmen, but here's the mission tree, if it rings any bells...

TC, now that I think of it, you should make scans of those booklets as well... to be added after Claw Marks on the Black Lance website... :)

If you complete succesfully each system (and even if you screw up at Kurasawa and go to Rostov, but still successfully complete Rostov), you won't get to fly with Maniac...

If you happen to fly with Maniac with WC1, then you either are not doing very well on your campaign :), or Halcyon is punishing you for something you did to him... :D

But I suppose that's when you can choose your wingman... i.e. WCIII onwards...

In WC1, Maniac is really a pain in the ass... (and some say he still is afterwards... :) )
