WC:CD Confed Transport

Hmm interesting concept and yea B-17's were awesome!!! I wonder if it's possible to make a mission based out of a turret, I know it may sound silly but I am just wondering if it's possible... Or... make the transport into a flyable ship and have to defend the transport with not much fighter support, that would be a pretty hard mission and the turrets would have to change positions so that all aspects could be covered.. But I could be just babbling on. :)

I tried that out flying a Kilrathi Corvette with the WCP mission builder ages ago. It was pretty fun, rolling around to keep the enemy in my turrets' lines of fire.

You never tried replacing the Devastator turrets with Stingray plasma guns? :)

You could always add on other races turrents, it would make sense that a growing navy would make use of the ships they heavily damage but not destroy. End Run showed that with the Johnny Greene having extra engines and an extra turrent. They also repaired a faulty targeting system with a unexploded missle seeker head.

I guess it depends on who's intended to operate it. If it's a powerful military faction or cash-strapped border worlds splinter state it makes some sense (in the first case because overwhelming military might should ensure that local superiority is achieved wherever it's operating, in the second case because they can't afford any better.) If it's, say, a wealthy merchant league that operates where combat is unavoidable and fighter escort is limited, then it might make sense to turn merchantmen into mini-gunships. It also opens up some interesting mission ideas - escort the convoy with their gun turrets bristling like a box of B-17s!

Maybe you could make several variations on this theme; give the latter jobs welded-on turrets and armor look.

You should look into this idea - from the perspective of the Q-Ship designs from WWII. See if you can give it panels that breakaway when it's attacked, revealing more turrets. This might not be possible, though, as the turret AI might make them try to shoot through the panels when enemies are detected...or maybe that would be the desired effect.

I can imagine that Confed tried to build Q-Ship type spaceships to try and track down random raiding parties of the Nephilim left over in Human Space. Upgrading and arming transports and throwing them hidden into convoys just makes some sense to me.

Hmmm that's a pretty interesting suggestion...Maybe a kind of hidden attack vessel.....that is very interesting that it is. I don't even know how that would be possible within the model unless I make the model then show some type of cutscene of the change but you wouldn't see the actual change as it happens tho...but definately a very interesting idea... :)

Actually, it could be fairly simple. You'd have to check with the Standoff/UE guys to see if this possible, but hypothetically you could make a mesh and attach to the ship as "fakecargo".

Then when the enemy ships show up you could have a trigger that destroys "fakecargo". Since you have to have a damage Mesh, the damage mesh could be transparent without any collision, revealing the "Turret" inside the model.

Yeah, I don't know if that's actually possible, but it was a suggestion.

You could use some AI triggers to set the turrets on the confed transport to ignore all targets until the cargo explodes, and then use the same trigger to update the AI Targeting list to all enemies.

I understand enough of the coding to know what's doable and what's not, but I've never understood enough of the editing to actually do most of it.
