Since we can now have WCTO polls without spamming the CIC's Chat Zone, I'll use that feature right away to ask again what scenario you'd like the next WCTO game to have. AND I'll say anyone can vote - not only players, but also spectators who'd like to watch and comment a certain scenario. So gather 'round, people, and cast your vote today! ;)

Multiple votes are possible. I also made this poll public, so I can see the actual players' choice. I'll also close this poll within two days, since we really want to get started with the new game. ;)

I've voted now, but I am willing to participate in any of the three scenarios! They all sound interesting.

Hmm, cosy here. :)

Since I won't be taking part in the game at least for two weeks, I refrain from voting. I'll play any game should I enter in the aftermath.

I'm against the Arena themed game because I'd like to do a more "realistic" engagement. I think the team tactics will be more interesting if we have the opportunity to fight in formation.

Well, I voted -- Destroyer Battle or Asteroid Ambush, for much the same reasons as Panda -- I like a "realistic" game.

None of these have even been described yet, how can one of them be any less realistic than the others? In short, what are you on about?

They have been described in the previous WCTO post in the main chat forum.

In the Arena scenario, each side will have a cruiser and several fighters. When pilots die, they respawn as a fighter of their choice from their side's cruiser. I have not played Arena on the Xbox (wee bit out of the price range), but if I understand correctly, this is modeled off of the capship battle from that game.

I am just making the point that this creates an arcade-style atmosphere. This makes sense when the setting is a dueling range for mercenary pilots trying to earn money, but not as a battle in a real war. I think it would be interesting to role play the fighter wings of two destroyers in an engagement, or two groups of fighters engaging each other in an asteroid field, because I'd like a better idea of what real WC tactics would be like. Because we never got to play any classic WC missions with multiple players, we never got to explore tactics. Armada and Prophecy multiplayer were duels or gauntlets, and from what I understand, Arena is a very different setting.

edit:
Here are the descriptions, copied from the other thread.
Asteroid Ambush: A Kilrathi and a Terran fighter patrol clash in the middle of an asteroid field. Restricted to light and medium fighters only.
Capship Arena: This is a pure fun game: One cruiser in the top left edge of the map, the other one in the bottom right edge. Free choice of any fighter or bomber, as long as it belongs to your faction. If you're destroyed, you get to choose a new fighter. The team destroying the enemy cruiser first wins. Since this is of course an allusion to the "Capship" mode of the great Wing Commander: Arena, be warned that random upgrades might pop up...
Destroyer Battle: A Confed and a Kilrathi destroyer engage each other, while their fighter escorts battle it out. This game requires one team leader per faction who takes direct control over the capship. No torpedo-carrying fighters allowed.

Hi Bandit_LOAF

It is probably a bit confusing, since we moved from being a single thread to now having our own sub-forum. We're voting based on the criteria found in the original thread. We voted there, but hit a tie, and now that we have our own sub-forum, we're using the real voting tools for the revote.

edit: I call 'Jynx' Panda, for the double post.

Sorry, my bad... I was too lazy to copy and paste the description from the "Looking for volunteers" thread (after it was on the CIC news). Thanks, Panda, for doing my job! :p

The poll will end in ~20 minutes and I don't expect any surprises. I also see why some of you want to play a more "realistic" scenario. I know I want one because it's easier fine-tuning the rules than in an Arena-style match. ;) (Capship Arena would have been, as I said, pure fun.)

Destroyer Battle will it be then! Although I haven't told you, I'm already hard at work to present you an all new WCTO experience (buzz words anyone?). I hope everyone can enjoy it, since you definitely need Macromedia Flash or Shockwave Player. I've uploaded a sneak peek of the new scenario's setup - click here to view it and tell me if it works for you. The turn summary window for turn 1's Movement Phase is of course empty at the moment. (I probably won't have to tell you to click on the red "x" to close it. Well, I guess I just did anyway.)
If you don't clear your browser's cache, the 500 kB backdrop image will only be loaded once per scenario.

See the "Scenario 2: Destroyer Battle" thread for further info on the new game!

The new map looks awesome, Ironduke. I like the implementation, it is (thus far) way more intuitive than the other version... and it doesn't need me to hold open two windows to keep track of things.

May I suggest opening a seperate thread to discuss the new flash version, where we can post suggestions as we play through this scenario?

This, and the fact that I don't have to update a gazillion html files each turn, made me consider the Flash version. ;)

Sure, go ahead. As long as you don't suggest any time-consuming features, we can talk about anything. :) (I've done a Flash game very similar to WCTO before, but at some point, it became too complex to be manageable in my spare time.)

I'll open a discussion/comment thread for the "Destroyer Battle" scenario right away.
