Trivia

It's pixelly because it's a tiny picture of Commander Keen that got blown up... but it *could* look far more pixelly.

Invisible gifs are ones you can see through one color of -- which is why Commander Keen (or your rank graphic) appears to be floating in front of the CZ instead of covering up one square.

Why the sudden interest in transparent GIF's? The Chat Zone is full of transparant GIF's ; practically every rank image, those Edit, Quote, WWW, buttons above each post, the Profile, Register, Rules,... buttons at the top of each page, the new thread, reply buttons. I mean, really.

Well, to you "fairly advanced" (let's say it: "experts") of computers (internet sites, imaging and such), it may seem rather obvious... but my personal experience with digital images is limited to Paint and PaintShop Pro (used only a couple of times)...

So unless some noble soul is willing to explain,

If you have Office 97, then you should also have a program called Microsoft Photo Editor. One of the buttons on its toolbar will give you the caption "Set Transparent Color" when you hold your cursor over it. When you click that button and then click on your image, it will allow you to make whatever color you clicked on transparent.

For example, if you had an image of the Wing Commander logo with a blue background, you could click on that blue background and make it transparent. Now, when you load that image on a web page, the background for your Wing Commander logo will be the same color as the background of the page.

(Remember that there are many other ways to set transparency besides Microsoft Photo Editor.)

Thanks! Was it such an hard answer to give? ;)

It'll be useful for a project I have in mind, thanks again!
