Toughest Enemy Fighter in UE

Don't know if all the UE posts (even though this is about ships in earlier WC games) are going to that section of the board, but this will be moved if that is so.

What is the toughest ship you have come across in WC:UE? I have yet to fight any Nephilim (that puts me at about mission 4 I think) but I have to vote for that little POS Salthi. Almost impossible to hit on the upper skill levels when they are evading (especially if your in a medium fighter) and deadly as hell with their Dumbfire missles. They could put a deadhead across the nose of a friggin gnat at 40 yards! Nice job guys giving the Salthi pilots a lethal aim to go with their limited arsenal.

ON a side note, I was wondering. Something that has bothered me about all WC games is the way that the enemy never seems to run short on gun power. I get tore up while waiting for my caps to recharge. It's especially eveident now that I get to fly the gratha. 3 volleys on full guns (kindof suspect since the MD fires so fast) are about all I get out before I'm in the red. When I'm fighting them grathas seem to just pour energy into me. Just curious if the game keeps track of enemy gun power or are we the lucky ones?

It's quite possible that the game doesn't limit the gun power for other ships, though I don't actually know for certain, and have never even wondered about it.

I don't think the game does keep track of the enemy's gun energy. Because I have run into a similar circumstance playing Prophecy with the enemy ships cheat on in the sim.

Ace : The computer in Wc1,Wc2,Wc3,WcP,SO and UE (I think , cause I ve never played it at ACE) Fires slow.
In Wc4 it fires normall even at ace Difficulty.

Now , in Nightmare all Wc game`s enemies fire at normal speed but still their guns never drain!

About the topic. Whos the toughest? All of them! As I said I always finish the Wc games at nightmare with no problemo but UE is a real challenge :)

Thanks for that :)

Well, I don't think I'm quite the veteren that you are (I've never beaten Prophecy on Nightmare, but then again, I haven't ever really tried) but anyway, I'm still trying to get through UE on Ace status. I think I hate flying against the Gratha. Head on they tear you apart, if you're behind them, they drop mines like nobody's business. you're pretty much dead if you're too close.

Its no big deal for anyone to complete a Wc in nighmare! Specially WCP its very easy compared to Wc4 for example!

Try them on nightmare , its lots of fun!:D

I don't think there many games which take account of how much 'ammo' the AI controlled ships/people/whatever use - it'd take too many CPU cycles to keep track as well, methinks. And the AI definitely fires slower than the player to compensate, else it'd be a massacre! For the enemy, I mean.

Oh come one. How long does a compare of values need again? Now there is the huge number of what - 50 ships on screen? That surely looses us 1/100th of a frame or so ;-)
It might pose a problem with the AI however as you'd have to teach it gunpool control.

Interestingly enough, Armada had fuel control (though I don't know if it had ammo control) for the enemy fighters. Heck, I remember waiting for an enemy Arrow to run out of fuel, once or twice... ;)

The Salthi are right little buggers to be sure. The best way to deal with a massed formation of them (especially in the Gratha) is to put a suitably lare asteroid between you and them. The Salthi are fast and nimble, but their thin armour is useless against an asteroid colission. The only problem is that they can sometimes fire their dumbfires right through asteroids so keep an eye out. With this method you can reduce a wing of 9 salthi down to about 3 :D

But you'd better fear the wrath of the three Salthi that are still coming at you afterwards :).

I was always laughing back in Wc1 when I had to destroy Salthis..
:D

Well...... not any more!

it would require that someone edited the code itself... I suppose it could use HCI's leech_gun string... What I'd like to see possible is the ability to cloak. The kitties don't have cloak detection(well, somewhat, but not perfected)... so it would be likely acceptable to have the fighters that can cloak, cloak.

Umm, did you post in the wrong thread by any chance, Manic? :p

As for the Lamprey, we had no reason to alter its stats. It's already a modern fighter, so there is no reason to use an updated version.

Why the Lamprey wasn´t fixed?

Why Fix the Lambrey ? What is wrong? From its nature is a useless ship!:D

That is the point, the Lamprey is a shield killer. if used well and fixed could be a great weapon.
imagine 10 lampreys attacking the Midway+ some bombers and the escorts.
