I was looking at the wikipedia article on the best selling video game franchises of all time, and I noticed that Wing Commander isn't up there. The list cuts off at 5 million sales (for an entire series). Did Wing Commander ever get near that?
 
I'm more or less certain it did - WCP alone sold around 700,000 units, while WC3 and 4 sold in millions. I don't know if anybody ever counted up the numbers, though. I can't even remember ever seeing any real sales data for any of these games. Even the numbers I just mentioned are basically things I'm repeating after other people, without ever seeing any official publication containing such data.
 
AD estimated in the recent movie thread that it was just shy of 6 million. Those charts are dubious since it's only recently that publishers started disclosing exact numbers of units sold. Even so, most of the figures floating around today are speculation from flaky guesstimators. Not that such a thing threatens Wikipedia...

What do you expect from a generation of gamers that thinks WC3 is Warcraft III?
 
It's not modern gamers' fault for omitting Wing Commander. You/we all haven't plugged in our part (applies to our own WCpedia as much as the Wikipedia).

Well the WCPedia being the exception, most Wiki's are just crap. People pushing their own agendas with whatever happens to be in their head regardless of the facts.
