Tomes of Sivar

Aeronautico

Rear Admiral
Alright, I have another question for you guys. You have all heard of that website Tomes of Sivar, right? Is that a legitimate source with canonical info? I want to do some revisions to the WCPedia's Kilrathi articles in the near future.

It's been years since I've visited that site (probably would be a good idea for you to post the link, when asking about a website), but I believe Tomes of Sivar was mainly fanfic - it contains a lot of official background material, but then adds its own fan info on top of it.

Is that a legitimate source with canonical info?

No, it's some guy's website. The first indicator is that the splash page is covered in that one animated fire GIF made up the entire internet in 1995.

Well, that website is pretty old and rundown, except for one(a wing commander RPG that ran until march 2009) all the external links are down.

I remember it being used alot during the Aces hay day.... as for the rpg link, while we've not updated place holder in 3 months, we have been working on re-establishing the site, and attempting a relaunch of sorts. We may be a shadow of what we once were, but we still exist.

Is the Tombs the end all be all source for Kilrathi information? No, while there is cannonical information in there, there is also fan-derived flourish.

Is the Tombs a good place to start learning about the Kilrathi? Yes.

I don't think there's any shrines of hidden WC knowlegde out there. I'm sure you can find anything you need on wcnews.com or on the forums. Just ask or search them.

Yeah any previous fan attempts at gathering information typically are injected with their own fan creations as well.

It's best to as Dyret said, stick to docs found on the CIC and the CZ. 99% of the outsides pull their info from here anyways.

It doesn't have to be that way though. We certainly encourage people to work on the WC Wikipedia thing we have here, but it would be great if there were other robust Wing Commander sites running independently. There have been many in the past, and there's no reason why people couldn't start new ones. There are some out there (such as Wedge's site), but accuracy is sometimes an issue (his dialogue scripts are edited slightly).

I was about to say, Wedge's site's pretty damn useful too. Whenever I have a Privateer related question I need answered, I go to his site first over wcnews. Not to knock on the CIC, but info on Wedge's site is a little easier to find.

He's talking about navigating the two sites. There is quite a bit here at the CIC but some of it requires a little time to find at times. He's just saying he goes to Wedge's site to find certain info a bit quicker.

Agreed. Still, searching desperately for 'secret canon' on some guys 90's webpage when almost everything you need is fairly easily available from 'robust' sources like these forums and Wegde's site is a bit silly.
