To Starlancer Players

TopGun

Vampire Ace
What do you perfer to do:

Take out Coalition Scum, or the Bloody Pirates (of which your former Wing Leader is a member)

Personnally, I like to dish of Justice on those Pirates, and teach them that Traitors Never Win

The last time I played Starlancer must have been last year. Was Viper the guy who was your former wingleader? And was the pirate leader called McGann, by any chance?

Well, in answer to your question, I love to take out the pirate leader more. Loved it when I taunted him, and he goes something like, 'Very dumb, kid, very dumb,' and then I subsequently fried his ass. All in all, it's more satisfying nailing scum like Viper and his pirate friends than the Coalition, although killing aces like Ivan and Nikolai come close.

By the way, did they ever explain why Viper defected to the pirates?

I alway take pout both Colonel McGann (Him and most of his Pirates were an Alliance Special Ops unit called the "Cobras") and Viper in the Mission where you go to the Pirate Base, and it has an Ion Cannon.

Viper Joined MacGann, cause MaGann mad him an offer he couldn't refuse. Bastard.

Damn that ion cannon! I remember how much heartache that gave me on the last mission. Had to use a Shroud for that one, because anything else without cloak and I'd get wasted by the beam.

You wouldn't believe how many times I kept hearing Moose's, 'The ion cannon is tracking us! Get out of it's range!'

Drove me absolutely nuts.

Because of that I had to stop playing it without ever finishing the last mission...
I can't remember the exact number of tries (with different ships including the shroud) but it were MANY

In the meantime I totally stopped playing any kind of flight simulators... I even did not have any desire to finish secret ops even though I've been a big WC fan since 1991...
hm, seems like a good time to quote Chris Roberts:
"I still love Wing Commander. Given the right opportunity, I would definitely revisit it."
So as soon as a new WC game is released, I perhaps will finish secret ops :)

Same for Starlancer! :D
(had to post that to get back to the original purpose of the thread :D )

You guys ever kill that first Black Guard on the first mission? It's bad ass to hear everyone in awe of you when I'm just like, "Bitch! I play fucking Wing Commander! Give me a break!"

LOL, yeah. Although even if we weren't Wing Commander veterans I think that fighter was pretty easy even for beginners.

Starlancer was *fun* and *nice* but i hate the *fast destroy 548 Toepedoes and bombers* before they reach X* in almost all missions.

By far one of the most annoying things for me in Starlancer was my bad tendency of getting hit by capship cannon fire. Instant vapourization.

I tend to agree with Ghost. For some odd reason, everyone else can engage fighters like 300k away, while you shoot down 200 some torpedoes. Then, once they're all done, and you try to get to the fight-you get about 2/3 of the way, and Oh! 200 more torpedoes, best get back!

I enjoyed the torpedo shootdowns... but I think they did make em excessive.. still it would have been cool if WC had had that sort of action thrown in.

Whahoo? WC did have that sort of action thrown in. There are many occasions in Prophecy and Secret Ops where we're defending the Midway, Cerberus or other ship from Nephilim torpedoes. And it was nothing new in there. Blasting down bioweapon capship missiles over Locanda IV in WC3 is awesome!

no... that was still different, I was reffering more to the feel of it... with starlancer the torps were more slow moving etc... more physics really but yeah, the wc examples were good, I just feel that starlancer pulled it off better.

WCI has lot of those (You don´t destroy torps.), but it´s fun how the escort missions are designed, when you must attack an enemy transport, it´s guarded by 4 or 5 Kilrathi fighter and you and you wingman are the only ones who attack it.
When you must defend it you and you wingman are the only ones defending him and the kilrathi attack it with 4 or 5 fighters and sometimes in 2 waves.
I hate Firekka 6 can save the Firekkan Drayman and it leads to the lose path :(

Yeah, and the only mission in WC1 where you get some backup is when you hit that Fralthi and you get two Rapiers from Kyoto. I mean, there are far harder missions where some backup would even the odds, like when you have to save captured Fralthi.
God, it took me ages to beat that mission... Hell, must have replayed it a thousand times.
I liked Starlancers feature that you could actually target a torpedo. Made shooting down torpedoes lot easier. But I agree, torpedo shootouts were kind of frustrating. I like killing fighters better.

I took down the First Black Guard fighter, and then took down many of the Sabre's that jump in and then the Kamovs Torp Bombers and their Torps. by the end of the game, I had around 600 Kills

Chris, even before you get to Locanda IV in WC III, you have to take down a Skipper. Plus in WC IV, you have to defend a Border Worlds Convoy from Confed Cap Ship Missiles.

Have any of you actually tried nailing torpedoes that the Grikath launch at the Concordia in WC2 on certain missions? Very difficult, since you can't target them, but possible.
