Thrakhath's Sister and other questions

On the other hand, in the intro to Prophecy the chalk drawing on the chamber of a female kat has only one set of breasts, like on a human.

Of course, asking a Kilrathi about it might get a response similar to the one Worf gave when asked about the forehead ridge thing on Klingons: We don't talk about that.

:D

Personally i'm more inclined to believe the responce would be along the lines of a claw to the throat. Having a hairless ape inquiring about your cleavage I imagine would be an uncomfortable and probably infuriating occurence for any Kilrathi female.

Sort of true, but usually goes the other way around... However unless they have cancer, the breast reduction treatments usually are about size, not going from 2 to one.:D

Remember the Wing Commander Academy cartoon that USA ran?

We certainly do -- you can download the episodes here: https://www.wcnews.com/wca/

Thrakhath had a sister! The cartoon show is the only one to mention her, but as far as I know, she isn't mentioned in any of the books or games.

She may well have died in The Glory of Sivar -- she was on Dolos when the Agahn Ras Sivar hit it...

It's also possible that she was Thrakhath's unidentified wingman when he escapes at the very end, though (though it was a Jalkehi instead of her Grikath from the previous episode).

The thing that always puzzled me about Thrakhath's sister was her name, Zukara. It sounds an awfully lot like zu'kara, the Kilrathi ritual suicide... but it's not like they forgot about that word -- she tells a group of Kilrathi pilots in The Price of Victory that "you all should commit zu'kara and offer the life in your throats to Sivar".

Also, I noticed something odd about this picture:

That Kilrathi priestess has a lot of bras on.

The original Ellen Guon-era Kilrathi females had six breasts, similar to a modern cat... though I don't believe any others are ever drawn like that.

Of course, we see Kilrathi with four claws and with five claws on each hand... and they show up without tails lots of times, too.

Perhaps just a physical feature for different sub-species of Kat?

As opposed to how a human female would react to you asking how big hers are? :p

It's also possible that the designers of the Wing Commander series decided to do some changes to the Kilrathi's appearances.

Ellen Guon-era? You might need to explain that, it's been a while since I played Wing Commander.

Although I wasn't aware of the franchise at the time, I assume the reference to the "Ellen Guon-era" relates to the time period between 1991-1992, when she co-authored the first Wing Commander novel, Freedom Flight, with Mercedes Lackey.

Cheers,

Hehe, she didn't just co-author Freedom Flight... she was writer for the whole series, including Secret Missions 2 and Wing Commander II. She created a lot of the 'landscape' of the Wing Commander universe that we take for granted today.

Hobbes kept his tail tucked down his trouser leg. Rachel was always asking was he glad to see her or something like that.:D

Hmm, interesting - thanks Loaf. Any particular reason why she wasn't involved with the subsequent games and novels?

Tolwyn was a pain in the neck in all of the games, novels, and the animated series. The only time he wasn't was in the movie. Now, here's something else I can't figure out: how old was the Emperor? Thrakhath was probably in his teens when his father got killed by the Emperor (Kilrathi don't seem to put much importance on family loyalty).

By the way, did anyone find the part where Blair had to sleep with their Kilrathi concubine funny? :D

Teens doesn't mean much to a Kilrathi, since the mature differently -- Ralgha nar Hhallas was a Rear Admiral by age 14 (and was commanding a cruiser by age 11).

That said, Thrakhath wasn't in his teens -- since he was already alive when the war started (in 2634), he must have been at least 21 when Gilkarg died (in 2655).

All we know is that the Emperor is at least 75 years old in Wing Commander III and that he's probably a bit older -- his "coming of age" war was the Varni conflict in 2594.

It's The Price of Freedom Book. When Blair rescues Melek he goes aboard his ship and ends up sleeping over. Protocol demands that he sleep with her but not "sleep" with her. And it was funny that he was allergic to cats. Who'd have known? :)
