These Standoff Pictures Are Mine (December 15, 2005)

The latest Standoff update reveals an exciting mission coming soon in the mod's next episode. Images released today show off the team's new mine design, and there's even an amazing picture of a Clydesdale fleet laying a field of explosives. Eder also detailed the status of various incomplete sections in Episode 3. You can find more information at the Standoff website.

Videos and graphics are now nearly complete. I just need to render a couple cutscenes and finish off one of the splash screens. Tempest has also made some good progress in the voiceover area, but we can't work miracles there since other parts of the game depend on other people as well. Apart from that, some missions still need to be debugged, and Michael still needs to finish all the cutscene music. So, Episode 3 is close, but not quite here yet...

Wow, that looks freaking awesome. Kinda makes me want to go make a mine for Pioneer. :D And I may be confused, here....but aren't those the mines from the WC1 period? the ones from WC2 were shaped more like fat saturns, if I'm not mistaken...

Yeah, I tried to make them look like the mines from WC1. Our mines are relatively big (so they look a bit too large to be carried by Raptors like WC1's Porcupines were), but they're supposed to be Porcupines indeed.

(From FA: "Tolwyn continued to pull back, his fighters coming in to land, a screen of escort ships guarding the sterns of the carriers from enemy fighters, while dropping out a spray of porcupine mines to slow the relentless advance of the enemy fleet.")

Thanks

Just to pile on more accolades - I'm really enjoying this mod.. What's really amazing to me is how playable the Prophecy engine is so many years after its initial release.

I'm having a blast (literally) with this mod and I thank you all for doing such a great job keeping Wing Commander alive.

Yeah, it's amazing when you think we went all the way from WC1 (which was incredible in 1990) to Prophecy in the span of about seven years. We're now more than eight years past that.. and the pace of evolution in space combat sims has really ground to a halt.

It definitely is projects like Standoff which keep everything going now. We're busier today than we were during points of the Secret Ops release in 1998.

Wow, somehow I hadn't noticed that... and it makes Prophecy itself all the more astonishing in my eyes. How can it be that games changed so much in the seven years between WC1 and WCP, and then the change slowed down so much that WCP still doesn't look or feel old after eight years?
