The Hardest Missions!

It's even worse in the novel, there's a squadron of Strakhas also involved in distracting the terran fighters from intercepting the missiles, as well.
That would certainly be a TOUGH mission! Of course in the game you also face Strakhas as you shoot down the missiles.

Really? I love flying the Broadsword. The Sartha in those mission had no chance against my mass driver cannons! Now the Epee... yikes. I get wiped out on the Epee missions and I always have.

Probably we just have different flying styles.

The Epee wasn't my favorite, but I'd take it over a Broadsword any day. I don't like ships that move slow, and I especially don't like ships that lack afterburners. I prefer to be able to move around, and I honestly just feel out of place flying a Broadsword. I do die now and then flying an Epee, but I die much more often flying a Broadsword.

Never cared much for the Longbows in WC3, either (though at least they had afterburners!), nor any of the bombers in WC Prophecy. If I was ever offered the chance to choose between flying a bomber or escorting bombers, I almost always chose the escort.

I would like to know why, in WC2, I have to escort other pilots flying Broadswords, but I never have an escort myself when I'm flying one. That doesn't seem very fair, does it? :p

Well it's surprising I like the Broadsword and get so many kills with it. I usually take high-speed ships like the Arrow or Epee. Just seems good when you can kill most enemies in a few shots! :)

You also have to man your own turrets. LAME.

You don't have to. You have a gunnery crew that fires (watch your turrets change color when they fire on the VDU), but you have the option to take over a turret if you want.

Well even then the gunnery crews aren't exactly spectacular in their shooting! Sometimes they can be really sub-par.

No kidding. The first time I played WC2, I think I went through several missions in ships with turrets before I realized that they'd fire on enemies without me controlling them directly.

Confed needs to train their turret crews better. :)

My most gratifying WC moment EVER was in a Broadsword actually. Manned the rear turret and blew apart three Drakhri almost simultaneously. Wish I'd had enough presence of mind to take a screenshot. It was like three big beautiful WC2 explosions, and I love the way things look when they explode in WC2.

Are you kidding? I've gone 7 years without knowing that you even have a gun crew, until Chris Reid schooled me a few minutes ago. :p

Well it's kinda hard to realize it when they never hit their target! :p

It took me half a mission to realize why enemies kept dying without me shooting them.

Sometimes turrets can be very helpful. It`s because the Broadsword is so bad when it comes to turning. And You (usually) never know when they destroy your enemies..

To date, I still have trouble with SM2 and protecting Hobbes as he defects. that one drives me crazy even today.

I can't remember which mission it is exactly, but in Unknown Enemy there's a mission where you have to protect the Dauntless and this really big space station... that one also drove me crazy!

Also, pretty much every mission in Standoff is a huge battle for me, but the lastest episode has this big confrontation where you escort these torpedo-capable ships in to destroy a kat capship that drives me insane. If I could I'd say "Move over you pussies and let ME destroy the damn thing!"Unfortunately, they don't give you torpedoes...

I really hate having to protect things.

The mission you're referring to in UE is that big defense one where you have to keep shuttling back and forth between several waypoints and you even have to rearm at one point right? If so I heartily agree with you, that is the hardest mission in UE and one of the toughest in WC history.

As far as Standoff goes, the hardest mission for me was in Warsaw where you make a strike against a Snakeir. Flying a Rapier, escorting the bombers, fighting through a horde of Kilrathi fighters... yikes! It's a great mission though and my favorite of the Standoff "winning" campaign. The Sirius path has some superb ones too. Standoff is such a great mod that I think its storyline should be included into Wing Commander canon.

That's great that you like it, but trying to incorporate fan stuff into the official storyline is nasty business. If you can incorporate stuff just because you like it, then you can just as easily detach stuff just because you dislike it. The only way we can have a common reference point is to go by a fairly simple criteria: and that is to have official products exist in the official universe, and everything else be just for fun.

The Bearcat's the best fighter on the short term since it's so fast and nimble, but it lacks the staying power of the Dragon due to its missile loadout.

Just like WWII aircraft, the Bearcat was an evolution of the Wildcat/Hellcat class of fighters and represented the best pure dogfighting design that the respective subcontractor could put out, at the time.

The Bearcat is superior in swirling combat, but Mjr. W is right, it can't hang in there in a heavy strike.

I'm playing WC1 SM1.
I did not play anything after this. I'm trying to play everything in order.

My toughest missions are:

WC1 Kurasawa 2 (not big deal ha?)
Never done it. Sorry!

WC1 SM1 Jotunheim 3 (Gwenhyvar)
I moved back eliminating one or two Rapiers. But I could go on with the game.

And the WC1 SM1 BiFrost 1.
I could do it, but Paladin never survives. And believe me that I have tried it.
And I disagree with ordering him to go home. It does not serve me
of anything have a Wingman that does not fight with me.

I'm playing SM1 for 5 months already. I am seizing it sporadically. Lazy player yes.
I have to take forces to cross every mission. It is difficult.
