Technical questions

Rear Admiral
Hey all!!

As some of you might remember I was working on a WC RPG, using the D20 system, I have it pretty much done and am now hashing out generational conflicts between the two games.

In WC3 and 4, do torpedoes still slice through shielding like in WC2, or do they do shield damage first. The same question for AMGs.

LOAF or someone else in the know, do guys have commisioning and retiring dates for the WC craft, Confed and Kilrathi?

I have not decided on how to do shielding differences between WC2 and WC3, in case pilots or ships come into conflict with obsolete vessels. I know that phase shielding isn't as effective. that sort of thing.

And for Electronic warfare, were there any SWACS birds in operation during WC1-WC4. I am considering to have jamming knock out targeting computers and radar, and long distance communications like in WC4. The only problem I am having with ECM, is jamming missiles and making fleet shadows with corvettes broadcasting fake signatures. I just don't want to make it to complicated, so it doesn't slow down game play.

Any thoughts, of what I need or don't need.

Comments welcome!

For torps, I think they still just slice through. Hence, the remaining 30 second lock-on time as shown in WC4's attack on a frigate in the TPOF novel.

As for ECM and such, the example of the corvettes refitted to fake out the Kilrathi in End Run is just one example. There should be others.

hmmm as for slicing through... I was playing through wc3 and 4 recently, and it appears to knock the shields out when I hit a cap-ship with a torpedo. At least that's what my targeting computer tells me.

From a "canon" perspective, they do - hence the lock time and such. The game isn't able to simulate only hull damage, so it knocks down the shields too.

Yes - are there any specific ships you need to know about?

I think it the upgrade from Meson to Phase shields on fighters between WC2 and 3 was fairly total - a fighter shielded in the manner seen in WC1/2 would be lucky to survive a single tachyon hit in the WC3 era.

The SWACS-specific ships in the WC1-4 era are larger, corvette sized ships. For individual roles (jump tracing, recon, jamming), individual fighters are outfitted with tech packages. (So, instead of a single ship that does everything you'd have a Broadsword with a jump tracer and an Arrow outfitted for long range recon on a mission-by-mission basis.)

Thanks for the help LOAF.

As for commisioning dates for pretty much all the ships lol, is there a fan site that has them?

Thanks LOAF, with these I can set up ship rosters. I am trying to make this as comprehensive as possible. I have been scrounging artwork and source text to keep it from being plain text.

All I need now are uniform shots, medals, and just a little bit more information.

This is a dumb question but I have to ask it, how do you lift video files or pictures from lets say, WC1 or WC2? I want to get the cockpit shots before the missions from both those games, and maybe even WC3.
