SW Battlefront 2

Shaggy

Vice Admiral
Just picked up SWBF 2 today, and it's pretty groovy. It seems a little more difficult than SWBF1, some of the controls are different, but the flight is amazing.
Flight control is similar to Freelancer, but the sense of speed is not as prevalent- it really shows up when you get close to a star destroyer or you're trying to follow another fighter. There are quick barrel roll and loop maneuvers that will change or reverse your direction quickly, but you can loop on your with the regular flight controls.
So far I've been getting my butt handed to me in a happy meal, but that happened for about the first week I played SWBF1, but playing as a Jedi makes it all worthwile.
The Jedi has probably got to be the coolest unit to play as.
So go out and buy buy buy!!!:D
It's worth the cash.
WC Mod anybody?;)

Space combat maps? Sorry, do you mean the slightly adjusted maps from Battlefront I?

Seriously, why is this game so hyped? If you want to play as a Jedi, go buy Jedi Outcast. Not only is it cheaper, it gives you alot more options. If you want to fly a Fighter, go buy X-Wing Alliance. Not only is it cheaper, it gives you alot more options. If you want to play as a standard trooper, go buy Battlefront I. In fact, you can get all three of those games for less then the total cost of Battlefront II, and they do everything Battlefront II does....but they do it better.

This would be, to put it in comarable terms, if Origin released a new flight simulator, with a brand spanking new engine with all the bells and whistles and said, "Here you go, Wing Commander Six!" And gave it exactly the same plot as WCP.

There's hardly any new substance to the game - unless you count the playable Jedi and the Space battles - and everything you knew (and loved) about Battlefront I has been tweaked to adjust the "playability" and "restory" game balance. Apparently, they even failed to accomplish that as this game plays MUCH more difficult then the original Battlefront I.

What they've done here is released a Mediocre game, with the Star Wars Logo on it that's made people buy it. This game is of the same quality of Battlegrounds. Anyone remember Battlegrounds? It's a Star Wars reskin of Age of Empire.

Okay what's your problem? The ground battles play EXACTLY the same as BF1, except now you can play as hero units, not just Jedi. The units have been tweaked a bit(to my liking). The only thing I've seen to make it more difficult is that it takes more shots to kill your target than in BF1. I enjoy the space battles too, you can choose between 3 different ships to fly, then go out and shoot down other fighters, take out systems on the cap-ships, or land on the cap-ship and take it out from the inside, your choice. It is pretty cool if you ask me. They redid the Galactic Conquest setup, which I like. The new Hunt feature is cool too. I even like the campaign centered around the 501st.

So yeah Jedi Outcast is better at playing a Jedi, and XWA is better at space combat, but neither of those games have all this stuff rolled into one package now do they?

Oh, yeah. I remember it. I actually liked it. I wish I had it right now. How do the Jedi classes work? Can there only be a certain number per team?

You can pick up SWBG at any used game dealer for ususally around 10 dollars.

Jedi Classes/Hero Units are dependent on server settings. You can really set them to whatever you want. The highest scoring player is selected to be his teams "Special unit" for his first life the next right, is how it is supposed to work, and how the default settings work.

However, hosting a server will allow you to set these settings to whatever you like (at least with the PC version).

Hmm, I want to play this game but there's no way I'm wasting money buying it until I play it. I bought the first Battlefront and thought it was awesome for about a week...after that I realized it was horribly unbalanced and online play was extremely laggy. Unbalanced you say? Yes, the fighters were difficult to control (at least on the xbox it was) and you would spend more time trying to take out one guy then if you just selected a standard trooper and mowed through ten guys. You could get in a tank and take out 70 guys in a game easily.

i have borrowed the first one and playing it at the moment and it is pretty good so i would guess that when i have a look at teh second one it would be just as good

See that's whats so great about PC games. You can tweak the AI or get a trainer.:D
I like the flight elements, the fighters are more maneuverable, even without the roll and flip modifiers, than BF1. The battlespace is much larger than even custom map space maps of BF1.
I could go into the problems I have with XWA and JO but that would be pointless.

Thats the dumbest, most askew peice of logic I've ever heard. Admittedly, maybe I shouldn't be expecting more given the person who posted, but I'd like to think that everyone here has two brain cells and a synapse that fires off when a thought enters their brain.

The point of the game is much the same of Battlefield - to give an Unreal Tournament game a "wider" range of combat. Yes, there are games that are more historically accurate (snicker) than Battlefield as well as games that specificly center on flight (SWotL) or ground battles (Brothers In Arms) - but how about a basic shooter giving you lots of eye candy and the ability to run around in a crazy enviroment in the middle of a giant battle?

Not to mention, Battlefront 2 will drop in price later down the line. Wheres you logic then?

If you're playing a game like Battlefront for the plot, you need to get your braincase checked.

So wait - you just said that they're dishing out the same stuff to us but they're also not allowed to add new things or fix problems with the previous entry?

This is one of those stupid paradoxical questions that Kirk would ask the Enterprise computer to make it explode.

How does higher difficulty = bad game? Some of the toughest games I've played have been the best - Wing Commander, Final Fantasy Tactics, Contra III as well as others.

I get the feeling you're masturbating at us using someone else's arguement. Something rings absolutely hollow with that last statement.

Ill be the first to say that Battleground and its sequel are really PC games; the console versions don't do well with the console controllers and theres a lot lost in the translation. I wouldn't know about playing online - if I wanted to be around jerks, I'd log onto the internet and go to GamingForce or an AOL Chat Room.

All this being said, Battlefront 2 is a fun little game. I'm not so pleased with the addition of Jedi characters because the point of the game is to play as an anonymous soldier in a major battle, not Ewan McGreggor. Also, the game sorely needs a joystick patch for the space levels.

I played. I though it was as good as The first one. However, If I want that style of gameplay and I do, I will go ahead and boot up BF2 and play it until hell freezes over. Which I do...alot

For once I agree w/ this guy and his usual asshole tact! I will say this, what game out there offers you the chance to fly in a fighter, land, and knock out the enemy ship from the inside, while still having a raging battle outside in space? You can fight the battle two different ways, either of which works! Not to mention I did enjoy the higher difficulty, improved graphics and harder, more involved battles! I agree it coulda been better, but still, that criticism has to rank amongst the dumbest things Ive heard in a long while!

And this won't be the last time I think you're an idiot.

I've read the reviews for the PC and Xbox versions. I'm kinda split. I'll try to borrow it from someone first. Gamespy even states that the Xbox version is better. What platforms are you guys playing the game on?

I still have not played Battlefront 2 yet...how is it? Does it still kick the first one ass to kingdom come?
I waiting for the release of Star Wars: Empire at War, it looks very impressive

Gamespot gave the edge to the X-box in terms of rating but never said why. Same with Gamespy. Frankly, the first one didn't translate well to a console controller and this one has even more buttons to remember.

I'm playing the campaign on Battlefront 2 now on my X-box and I am stuck on the "Knightfall" stage where you assault the Jedi Temple. I can take the throne room, but then i cannot protect the library long enough for the empire to complete its scans the library banks are always destroyed. Does anyone have any tips for how to get through this part?

Ignore the upper level of the library and stick to the lower level. Theres three waves of Jedi, I think; use the "regular" clone trooper to take them out, perferably with headshots. Don't use grenades because you run the risk of damaging the library stacks. Also be warry of missile toting soldiers, though they don't show up often.

Did anyone else think the Hoth level was a total pain in the ass? It took me like 7 tries to protect the beacon under the transport cause the rebels completely ignored me and just flung grenades and rockets at the thing like there was no tomorrow.

I got Battlefront II on the 31st (GameStop had a thing where if you pre-ordered it, you could pick it up 10/31 at 9 PM), and I must say that I'm fairly impressed. I've never played the first Battlefront, but the game seems easy enough.

I've only got two problems with the game
-Granted, games should get more difficult as you go along. But the story mode gets incredibly difficult toward the end (I almost snapped my Xbox controller in half over the Yavin 4 space battle). I don't mind a challenge, but it shouldn't be THIS difficult.
-I don't like how heroes have to keep killing to keep their life up. After you've killed everyone around you and captured a CP, you're pretty much screwed. Heroes are killable just like everyone else, their life should be depleted as such.

I had a third thing I didn't like, but I can't remember it right now. I guess I'll have to go off and play some more. :-P
Good game, but it certainly isn't perfect.

Thats the hardest level in the entire campaign, just because you have 10 minutes to complete 3 major objectives (Shoot down 10 fighters, take out 4 turrets and then take out 6 engines, I think?). I played it a couple of times and would always run out of time while taking out the last or second to last engine, so I bypassed the level entirely and just went to Yavin.

While heroes can't order troops around, the trick is to get as many soldiers around the CP as possible. That makes the capture much quicker. If you're going for a CP single handedly, you're going to be wasting a lot of life; go for the ones the bots are going for.

Whats everyone's favorite level in the game? I really like Utapau myself. Tantive IV is pretty tough, especially because Rebels have the tendency to toss grenades into your spawn point. I'm not a big fan of Yavin, either, though its better balanced in this game than it was in Battlefront. I am sorely disappointed they took out the Cloud City level from the original game, though.
