I have the old WC III Heart of the Tiger. but it is for MS DOS... What can i do to make it run in my XP? Is there anything the official game site is giving as a patch?

Try this patch which is hosted here:

It is not official but it makes the game work in windows XP by using a new executable and as long as you do the usual stuff such as compatibility mode and alt-tabing out of the intro and setting priority to normal, it should work.

No problem. Enjoy. Remeber to save often though because I am told it still crashes to desktop every now and then with windows XP, since that patch is actually supposed to be for win9x.

Oh.. and something else.. is there a page where i can read everything there is about patching up, etc? Something like a tutorial or a how-to

I'm not sure if there is a tutorial or anything about patching games but this page https://www.wcnews.com/files.shtml has quite a few wing commander patches which have instructions with them (except the one I linked to unfortunately).

Epoch, you might want to check out the Tech Support section of this form as it provides, er, tech support.

There are some stickies right on top that explain a lot of general questions about running WC games on modern machines; and if you search the threads you'll find hints to many specific problems.
