Star Trek: Favorite Class...

For those of us around here who like the Universe, let me ask who amongst you like which classes of ship?

Personally, I'm probably in the minority... I like the class that is one of the more beat on throughout the Universe; the Ambassador class.

Based on what I could find in the few Star Trek encyclopedias that mention the class and on the website, it was originally built as a replacement for the Excelsior class... however this ships main job was escort, patrol, defense and other military mission (as it was built during the War-era). Starfleet determined that the Excelsior class was far more versatile, thus only ordered 90 of these ships built.

The noteable of these ships were the Excalibur commanded by Riker during the Romulan blockade, and the Enterprise C... which in my opinion was the second most important of the Enterprises, for its contributions during the Kitomer (spelling?) massacre...

The class is now 78 years old according to the info, and only a handfull of them are still in use. Still according to the specifications, this old ship easily matches the Galaxy class "Explorer's" armaments, the disadvantage being that its sheilds are rather poor and it isn't nearly as fast. This in mind, these ships were frontline fighters during the Dominian war, and when available are the ship of choice usually (or the Excelsior class is) for an Admiral's flagship.

A good measure of how durable these relics are is seen in the first "Dominian War" book. The USS Aurora is fighting one on one with a Dominian Battleship. Before the Enterprise arrives, the ship takes a massive hit to its warp nacelle and goes spinning out of control. Never-the-less this ship never stopped firing once. Picard made sure to credit her with that much when the ship finally did meet its end.

All and all even though only a small amount of them were built, I think the left thier mark on the Star Trek universe.

Who else have a favorite class and why?

Refit Constitution class...then again, this is going to be one of, if not the, favorite for anyone who's been a Trek fan since childhood and who grew up on TOS.

The Excelsiors were excellent, yes. Never much cared for the Ambassador class, personally.

As far as a little trivia is concerned, in the now out-of-print TNG Officer's Manual, it states that the Enterprise-C was an Alaska-class warship, which was to be far more powerful than the Excelsiors. The Vulcans argued that naming a ship of this class Enterprise would desecrate (my term here) the history of ships named Enterprise being primarily explorers, where the Alaska class was a pure and simple offensive firepower platform.

But anyway...for me, the Constitution-refit (which is the Enterprise-class in some texts), and the Excelsiors...the original, NOT the refit, a la Enterprise-B.

Addendum to the above: Obviously the "official" universe had the Enterprise-C as an Ambassador class ship. But the story was different...as was the power quotient...when first originally conceived.

Have you ever actually seen TNG episode "Yesterday's Enterprise"!? Its clearly stated as an ambassador class!!!

i might be a minority for saying : The Intrepid class ( USS Voyager )

darn fast, quick response, can support borg alcoves to allow ex-borg babes to regenerate, never seems to run out of shuttles and comes equiped with a holographic doc with a lousy bedside manner.

what more can one ask......

part of the reason why i choose this class was that i am an avid fan/developer of Elite Force. just the feel of being aboard that ship, defending it, activating the self-destruct etc etc gives a totally different perspective of the ship. in the elite-force series the players are aboard constitution class, sovereign class and excelsior class too but the intrepid class was deffinately the best from the inside.

Have you ever watched generations?

I think my favourite is the Galaxy class Enterprise, afterall it had my favourite Captain out of the lot and I think the bridge looked a bit more chilled and classical than the others.

Out of all the Klingon ships, I have to go with the D7, it looks pretty deadly, but there is one thing I've often thought about, the neck section looks like it could be easily snapped off with a torpedo or two, sort of revealing a design flaw.

Soveriegn class all the way.
Sleek curves, decent power, the ability to keep going with the absolute shit beat out of it.....oh yeah and Picard's Enterprise-E.
But if I had to pick a non-federation ship I'd go with either the Andoran ships from enterprise, or the ships used by species 8472.

Was the Defiant Defiant class? I thought it was an interesting ship. I think it'd be more fun to be in command of a smaller ship like that one.

Personally I prefer the battle ready Prometheus Class Warship. She has but one use, bring lots of firepower in 3 different directions.

Regenerative Shielding
Ablative Hull Armor
Multi-Vectored Assault Mode

Now thats versatility.

No, having just one use is the opposite of versatility. :)

I'm a fan of the Sovereign myself

There were quite a few seen during the Dominion War including the Valiant (seen in the episode of the same name) and the Sao Sao Paulo (renamed Defiant in honour of the original Defiant). There were also 2 seen the Voyager episode Message in a Bottle
