That they went through the effort to identify where this callsign comes from (IIRC Bear only mentions it once when recounting pilots who were killed at Kilrah) is really great.

Despite Arena's small scale, the people who produced it have a love of Wing Commander that is simply amazing. It's great to see how seriously they took S*S despite the fact that many people who played Arena have probably not heard of it or even know what WC really is outside of XBLA.
