Sound Card

Hi, I posted this in the tech-help section earlier, but not many people responded, so here it is again...

does anybody know of a really good sound card that is "marginally up to date", which plays the WCP movies perfectly? I am really tired of switching the DxDiag settings every time I play...

thanks,

P.S.- could you guys please tell me where to find such a card and the estimated price range? Thanks again :)

I've had no problems with my SB!Live Value... although other people may have. It cost me about 60 bucks some years ago.

Same here, SBLive is a great card, especially for older games. They still cost around 60, I'm buying one for a friend of mine.

what kind of SB? I'm on their website, and I see all sorts
(e.g. SBLive Platinum 5.1, SBLive X-Gamer 5.1)

Value digital, though they're all pretty much the same, except the Value has some of the expensive high end features ripped out. The platinum also comes with the Live Drive which pretty much turns it into a stereo. They all have SB16 emulation, which will let you run DOS games well.
I'd recommend the Value unless you really want to pay a lot for super sound.

The SB16 PCI is the exact worst Sound Blaster available to purchase.

And PCI is just a faster bus. ISA is a stupid piece of legacy tech that should've died 3 years ago.

sorry, is it really that bad? I couldn't find the Value on their site to purchase, and all of the nearby stores are closed, so I can't ask them how much...

plus, it's cheap...
is there any real problems with it, or is it just a sad piece of tech?

SB16's still a passable card... I still have one installed actually... it's great for old games.

512 is alright, but no digital output. But I'm the only guy in existence with digtal speakers anyway, so it works out.

so, this will play WCP movies correctly then? I need assurance here, I'm not going to go and waist 70.00 bucks and have it not work...

... Plug it in. And make sure that in the Control Panel you have sound acceleration to minimum. When you turn it up, everything jitters.
