Shok'lar: Cheap cloak or effective countermeasure?

BlueClaw

Spaceman
The purpose of the cloaking device on the Shok'lar in Armada: what was its exact usage? The Shok'lar only kept you cloaked for about a second, then returned you back to sight. Was its only purpose as a countermeasure?

Yeah, I noticed that it kinda sucks too. It does throw off a lock from an ImRec though. But other than that it just seems like a fancy noisemaker with the way it buzzes and all.

The Shok'lar stays cloaked as long as you've got gun energy. This is more than enough time, usually, to get out of somebody's crosshairs. It probably wouldn't allow you to do anything fancy like sneak up on the Tiger's Claw, but it's still very useful. Though I hardly ever saw anyone use it on the network... the fact that you needed to cycle through guns instead of having a cloak hotkey was somewhat annoying.

Armada was one game i never really got into.
i tried to kill a Shok'lar for what seemed like hours at one point, cause it would cloak and i'd lose sight of it.

You could, however, hold the Fire button down with Cloak selected, and then press the Change Guns key. While decloaking, your shots should do significant damage to your enemy.

But, then again... We all knew that. ;)

It does when you take your dear sweet time and push the Cats back to only 3 planets and mine every other damned system on the map. :)

God, I want to play that game now!

of course i did not play it until well after it was originally released.
im talking EA classics, in a cd jewel $9.99 re-release.
so i missed the "new genre" feeling.

Gosh, 1994... I remember rushing out at like 8:00 at night (on a school night! which dates me <G>) to get Armada because they called and said it'd come in...

my first WC game was 3, and i bought it cause i had $15, and i happended to be in office max. it was in the boxed EA Classics.
that game owned me for a year of my life.
i still love it.
i even think the flight engine was better, the textures looked nasty in WCIV.
i have since bought all WC games released for PC. :D

My first WC was Wing 1 back just after it was released. Hopefully Wing 2 FM Towns isn't my last WC <G>

Ehh, I've talked to a few people there. We'll know something soon. Things sound positive for now.

I got it from my local Computer City on an impulse, for no reason other than the fact it said "WING COMMANDER" ... :)

Why are you still here? I told you to go seek help. Do it now. Go on... And don't come back until you're fixed.

Ah, I see you coming back to post! No. Bad Bob. Stop typing, turn your computer off, and go seek help. Now.
