Secret Ops mods

hi all. what'z up? i'm just wondering if there are any other Secret Ops mods other than the Wing Commander mods(UE and Stand Off)? i've been searching and i just can't seem to find them. so are there any other mods for Secret Ops? if so where can i get them?
 
I dunno, but, I'm thinking that, after Standoff is finished, I'd like to (with permission, of course) use the ships and such from UE and Standoff to remake WC1. I think that'd be a damned lot of fun.
 
There are a few. One is called Alien Legacy and the other is Rebellion, you can find them both here. I haven't had a chance to play either of them, but they might be worth a go round.

Never was able to get either of them to run. Not that I tried very hard.
 
Eh, they're pretty easy to run, since they're basically just a bunch of sim missions (back then, nobody really knew how to implement campaigns, so everything was done as sim missions). You need to install one of the simulator patches, and then you install the sim missions and the additional ships. I don't think I ever played them very much... I like having a nav map and stuff :p.
 
Hey, are you guys gonna have a kilrathi "starbase" in Standoff? You know the one I mean, right? That wc1 bugger that died all-too-easily.
 
No... unless the Kilrathi are really, really fast builders, it seems impossible for them to have a starbase in the middle of Confed ;). And yes, there could be a starbase in a sim mission, but we already have a lot of ships, and meanwhile Eder has enough trouble finding the time to finish off the two ships still on the to-do list, let alone add new ships to this list.
 
Eh, true, I suppose.

Would it be a possibility to use the existing (when it's all finished) ships/modifications to make a wc1 era game? I just love that era, for some reason.

In theory, yes, it'd still be a lot of work, but the ships would be re-useable... but in practice, if anyone who isn't me does anything with my models and textures, they'd better be damn sure I'll never be able to find out where they live. :D

Agreed. Has anyone tried to fight in a ship without shields (a.k.a. Freespace 1, early missions)? Its no picnic, I tell ya :)

But it could be fun to fly one of those bad-ass, WC movie Rapiers. Especially with the Freelancer 3D engine. Hmmm, lickable :)

And, Eder, I was, of course, talking about having your permission. I'm not into getting getting my ass kicked for no good reason. Really, though, since there's already WC1 music, and you already have most of the wc1 ships (excluding what . . . the Dorkir and the Starbase . . . and the wc1 style dralthi . . . and the Drayman). It would mostly be voiceovers and mission programing. Right?

You'd really have to go pre-pre-WC1 to find ships with no shields, even those in Action Stations (2635-Wildcats, Minotaurs and the like) had shields. That would be interesting to know, about when did the Confederation acquire shield technology?

Anybody remember the timeline of WC Movie? I know neither federation, nor furballs had shields on their fighters.
 
That was because no one wants to watch the fighters shooting each other for half an hour until their shields are down, same as in Star Wars.

I only vaguely recall AS, and can't be bothered getting up right now to pick it up off the shelf, but IIRC, the shield technology in AS was only good against floating junk, pieces of shrapnel, and that sort of thing. They didn't really do anything against guns or missiles.

It wasn't a threat. Just some friendly advice. I certainly wouldn't want people to think I wanted to lick a ship that looks like a penis. Would you want that thought of you? Unless you're homosexual, I think we can safely assume the answer is "no".

I remember lots of instances where Tolwyn made comments/thoughts toward his shield status while battling Kilrathi in his Wildcat over McAulffie (last hit dipped shield indicator from green to yellow . . . yellow to red - statements like that).

Quarto has brought up a good point. Even if the shielding is insufficient against guns and missiles (I'll have to check back on AC later on), it still has its uses, such as debris, junks, but also much more important, against funky stuff like pulsars waves, radiation, etc etc.

Fighting with no shields in Wing Commander is like wearing leather chaps with no pants. People will think you are a fag :eek:
