Saga Turns The Flashlight On (October 17, 2005)

After a few months of tweaking the brightness settings, updated shots from the WC Saga mod have been released in more viewable lighting conditions. Nebulas and backgrounds also help to differentiate the ships from space. These images feature a variety of common Saga ships such as the Confed Light Carrier and Kilrathi Light Destroyer.

Thanks for your continued interest in WC Saga. We are building this mod to make it as enjoyable as possible for the fans. I have been a part of the play-testing team, and in my opinion you will think that the wait has been well worth it. We haven't forgotten you, our encouraging fans. Keep the faith, good things are coming soon!

hehehee. nice, but this has been known for a while. Its not like a bug has been fixed.

Well, one of the common things you'll find in our news is not that the updates are necessarily timely, just that 2000+ of our daily visitors have not yet seen the subject of the news post before.

I personally like the darker lighting, looks more realistic-- add's more atmosphere I think. Then again, this is just personal opinion.

I would argue that realistic in terms of Wing Commander means making it look like Wing Commander rather than making it looks like what people assume real space combat might be like if we could somehow throw the entirely unrealistic concpet of Wing Commander ships and physics into it.

Oh, I should probably mention one thing: as I have taken screenshot, they always seem to turn out darker than what the screen was actually showing.

Also, since LOAF mentioned a lighting preference that many may share, I thouht I'd look into it. Just for those who would like space to look the way it does in WC, I'd recommend an ambient light setting of somethere between 130-145. That may not mean a whole lot now, but it is an option you will be able to enter into the launcher. I prefer mine at about 90. That way, I can still see ships well, but I also get to fully enjoy the amazing glow points and specular lighting that has been built in.

The "Wing Commander flight model" of atmospheric physics in space is completely unrealistic itself. Things would have to be far far darker than even the darkest Saga screenshots to be representative of actual ships in space, but that wouldn't be any fun to look at.
