RIP Khan

He was in "Space Seed" and yes, this totally sucks. I can't believe how much younger he looked than he actually was. He was 62 in Star Trek II.

Eh, I object. Yes, it is sad (for those he leaves behind, though - it certainly wasn't sad for him), but it most definitely does not suck - he was eighty-eight years old. As that obituary states, it quite simply was his time.

Also, please excuse me for a little rant, but I really wish science fiction fans had enough maturity to look beyond that one role that they happened to see a given actor in. When it comes to someone like Montalban, there's much, much to talk about and admire. For example, in today's world of constant divorces and re-marriages and all that idiocy, it's wonderful to read that this was a man who, after marrying in 1944, stayed true to his wife all the way until her death in 2007. That one simple fact completely overshadows all of his acting roles put together.

...I mean, it just makes these RIP threads seem awfully hollow. If all that he was to you is Khan, then why do you care? (I'm not saying this is actually the case, mind you - but when "he was Khan" seems to be the only thing you have to say about him... I'm also not saying that you're not allowed to appreciate his great acting as Khan, just have some appreciation for the other eighty-seven and a half years of his life)
 
I was so upset when I saw this. I don't think it sucks as he did live a long life. But he will be missed as an awesome actor.

Also, please excuse me for a little rant, but I really wish science fiction fans had enough maturity to look beyond that one role that they happened to see a given actor in. When it comes to someone like Montalban, there's much, much to talk about and admire. For example, in today's world of constant divorces and re-marriages and all that idiocy, it's wonderful to read that this was a man who, after marrying in 1944, stayed true to his wife all the way until her death in 2007. That one simple fact completely overshadows all of his acting roles put together.

...I mean, it just makes these RIP threads seem awfully hollow. If all that he was to you is Khan, then why do you care? (I'm not saying this is actually the case, mind you - but when "he was Khan" seems to be the only thing you have to say about him... I'm also not saying that you're not allowed to appreciate his great acting as Khan, just have some appreciation for the other eighty-seven and a half years of his life)

Yes, that was a rant, and a real insensitive one at that, just because people only may remember him for that one role does .not. make their sadness at his loss any less sincere.

Quarto: While your point is perhaps valid, it's neither the time nor the place. You could have simply brought to our attention what kind of person he was rather than your tasteless retort.

Everyone else: This train of thought ends here. If you want to express condolences or admiration for the kind of man he was and for his body of work, by all means go ahead. Otherwise consider this a warning.
 
A man who gave me thrills as one of the greatest sci-fi villains ever and laughs as Freakazoid's nemesis Gutierrez. Along with his beautiful, beautiful voice he will be extremely missed.

I still thought he was terrific in the original fantasy island... never really cared for Admiral Tolwyn's version.
