Victory, you say?
Why did Blair mix up the titles of both Wilford and Tolwyn in tense situations?

Depending on the ship you choose for the mission on Telamon, he calls Wilford either a "rear admiral" or a "vice admiral"

On the senate debate, he calls Tolwyn both an "admiral" and a "space marshal".

You know?
I knew that you made this post when i saw the new post yellow icon in the CZ main page.

Well, as Tolwyn was just made Space Marshall, one could chalk it up to just old habits.

Rear Admiral? Vice Admiral? Either bad writing, Hamill messing up or possibly Blair is thinking of Wilford's days in ConFleet.

Or Blair was trying to de-stabilize him emotionally.

Not really, because Wilford was a Captain in Confed. We know this because he's still a captain in WCP.

Hehe
If killing thousands or millions humans (BW or Confed) don´t destabilize him, i can´t see how changing his rank can do it.

Tolwyn: Damn Col. you said Admiral...NOT SPACE MARSHALL!!!

*Tolwyn´s head explodes*

mmmhh..Maniac *is* a Space Marshall,right?

*Rimshot*

GOOOOO...GHOST!!

In the senate debate I think Blair used Space Marshal sarcastically, at least that's the feeling I got from the end movie, I might have to watch it again.
And maybe Wilford was promoted:D Or maybe Blair simply slipped into his old Confed patterns.
Or maybe the seat of the Dragon was made from hemp and he was getting a contact high from the THC soaking into his butt:D

Thats a very one-sided poll. It's very possible his mind was still in a state of shock from all the things he has witnessed. Hell, the guy in charge of FIMA screwed up the days when he was interviewd shortly after Sept 11, and conspiracy theorists jumped on it. Fact is when you deal with such a massive tragedy first hand, you lose track of unimportant things. Ranks, dates, etc, are a formality, and slip the mind. Thats a canon-based theory. Whether it was intentional or not, I dunno.

Thats an awfully silly way to do it. Blair would be better off saying "neener neener" a few dozen times.

You're probably right, but I could've sworn there was something about Wilford's rank being knocked down after he transfered back to ConFleet. Or am I confusing that with someone else?

Yes, he may have done it on purpose. "Tell us all, admiral, is that the price of freedom?"

That would be "Deep psychological subtext". And don’t you mean FEMA? This might be the most popular agency for the conspiracy folks, second perhaps to the CIA.

But it worked!

He was an admiral on the UBW, but a Captain in confed. When he returned to confed, he returned to his old rank. The UBW probably promoted him due to his experience and their lack of admirals. :)

"S p e c i f i c a l l y, Admiral Wi l f o rd looks infinitely happier after
re t u rning home on leave, but I personally suspect he’s also
happy to once again be Captain Wi l f o rd at the helm of the
M i d w a y. Like all of us, he’s terribly anxious to get back into
action, but at the same time he obviously relishes the chance
to take the Midway on the “grand tour” and show her off a
b i t ."

Thats an extract from Paladin's letter.

Maybe the "Captain" is just Military tradition, plus they're not going to put a normal Captain in-charge of a megga Carrier.

Wilford retired from Confederation service just after the Kilrathi War ended (in 2669). His last post was as a line Captain (O-6), supervising command of the Enigma Sector. He moved to the Border Worlds to spend his retirement. When the Border Worlds decided it needed to build up a fleet, their government offered him a comission as a Vice Admiral (O-9). When he returned to Confederation service to command the Midway, he returned to his last Confederation rank -- Captain (O-6). You can tell that WCP refers to the rank and not the position by looking at his rank insignia during the game (single silver bar).

The 'real' reason Wilford becomes a captain in WCP is because the role was written with Eisen in mind -- when Jason Bernard died, they switched it to being for another familiar (but certainly less celebrated) commander, Wilford.

Blair's reference to Tolwyn as a Space Marshall was purposefully sarcastic, though -- it's actually written in single quotes in the script, for emphasis of this (As in " 'Space Marshal' Tolwyn ").

Of course, were you to look at Tolwyn's service record circa 2673 (after his death), it would confirm that he was actually promoted to Space Marshal...

Interesting, I didn't knew that bit of information. Makes perfect sense when you think about it.

Confirming this is Barbara Miles that, in the game, announces in V.O. that "space marshal Tolwyn's appeal was denied today."

Yeah, we all know Barbara Miles is *really* great at reading the news properly.

Meanwhile, on Bistango *EX*! (G)

Well that was top of my list with cancer a close second. Its a real shame, although it would be stretching probability a bit.

I gues thats why they had the TCS Eisan in WCP.

Yup. And why there's a dedication to him in the game's docs... and why "Barnard's Star" got changed to "Bernard's Star" on the WCU map.
