Prophecy Mission Help

I'm on the mission where you start in a Vampire and you take out the Bug Cap Ship's turrets then land and switch to a Devastator.
Is it just me or is the second part of the mission extremely difficult? 10 Seconds into arriving at the cruiser on the second mission, it seems like every ship has targeted me and no matter what I do, I can't shake them off. I get killed within 1 minute of that mission. Then have to restart the Vampire part of the mission again.
Do you guys have any tips on how to beat the second section of the mission?

Are you taking time to blow them away? The Devastator has a nice plasma cannon that rips up fighters quite nicely... you have to be precise though, because they don't refire very quickly at all.

Either take them out ASAP, or fly in the simulator for a while to get used to flying the bombers.

I've tried going directly for the cap ship, dropping mines behind me as I go, I get killed.
I've tried dogfighting, however it's hard to fight off 5+ fighters that are shooting you all at once in a Devastator no matter how good you are. I die there as well.
It's just annoying how you have to redo the Vampire section of the mission if you die in the Devastator.

Since only 3 fighter can target you at once on the nightmare level, there definetly aren't 5+ fighters going after you.

I'd recomend ordering your wingman after the dreadnought, they will usually take it out without dying. Meanwhile, you should stay near your escorts and use your missiles, and once they're out, your Plasma canon. Try to destroy the Mantas, an any Devil Rays first, since they're the largest threat to you and other bombers.

If nothing works though, just lower your difficulty setting.

Use mines. If there's a bug on your tail, he'll be gone... or he'll be dead. And you do have 36 of them.
I'm actually surprised how little people appreciate the Dev's 36 mines. Admittedly, they generally don't kill anyone, but creating a minefiled around you will deter even the most determined Devil Ray.

Well, it certainly seemed like it when my screen stayed red from all the shots hitting me. Oh well, I guess I'm not cut out to be a bomber pilot.

*Quarto: I've already discovered that they are some hella l33t corvette-smackers. Rules!* - So they should be... they do as much damage as a Valiant Light Torp.
