Curious to know how many of you veteran WC pilots have been able to finish Privateer (Privateer 1 - Steltek Drone plot) in the Taurus. I tried out the newest version of VegaStrike last week, and the music that is played while I'm in dock made me homesick for Privateer to the point I had to play it again, for about the 16th go-around of the Steltek/RF plot missions. This time I wanted to try and use a Taurus for the whole campaign, something I have not done before. Typically I'll dump the Taurus the very first opportunity my finances allow, usually before I ever leave the Troy system.
I made around 1 million credits running various 'random' missions in the Taurus before I launched into the Steltek plot. In the Centurian missles are almost superfulous, but in the Taurus missles equal life when faced with 3 or 4 to 1 odds, even with lowly Talons. The Palan mercenary embargo busting and escape from the Kilrathi with Monkhouse off of Palan was extremely difficult, at best. That Taurus with Level 1 shields/engine just has no 'oomphf'. Add in the relatively easily damaged tachyons, and you frequently might as well "dump your cargo before you blow".
I am heading out to Rygannon presently to do the survey missions, and who knows, maybe find an alien drone. I don't know if I can take on the pride of Kilrah out in the asteriods in this underpowered/undershielded/slow 'power-house' of a space-combat ship, the Taurus.
Is the RF plot easier or more difficult than the Steltek plot missions flying in a Taurus, since in RF you at least can upgrade your engine/shields/guns/repair bot/armor?
