Hello, i just got Privateer gold edition and i have a problem. I can't run it at all, i can't even install it. when the auto run comes up i click on install and it doesn't do anything. then i go to dos and type in E:\install (E being my CD-rom) and it says invailed drive. i had the floopy version awhile back but i kept having the jemm errors and that other one. Also is there anyway to get my Microsoft flightstick pro to work? i think it won't work either..

i know pretty much nothing about dos and im pretty sure i have no drivers in dos.

can anyone help?

thank you

just got P1 today,i installed it on dos but

LanceKnight: You'll find my response in e-mail.

Kain: Give me the output of MEM /C. To do that, restart in DOS (using the same configuration you do for Privateer) and type MEM /C > MEM.TXT. This will create a new file (MEM.TXT) that contains the output of MEM /C. Just copy its contents into your next message.

i restarted in DOS mode and punched in the
"cd/privater,PRIV code" and the JEMM unloaded cd not found message came up.

now for the.. mem/c output...

heres the important text i got from the mem/c

Even this isn't quite the whole output; some of it scrolled offscreen. That's why I asked you to output to a file.

Also, you should do this from DOS, using the same configuration as you do for Privateer, not Windows.

Here's the command again: MEM /C > MEM.TXT

This will create a text file called MEM.TXT that has the information I want. Give me the contents of that file.

Do you type in mem/c at cd\privater?

well that's what i did and it seemed to work
but nothing shows up,where is the flie created?

Run the command again; this time, from pure DOS, not a Windows DOS box.

Two COMMAND.COMs? That doesn't look normal to me. And from a cold boot at command prompt it souldn't show that WIN line. That's Windows for all I know.

Probably adding RAM to the EMM386 line in CONFIG.SYS would help...

Having two COMMAND.COMs actually makes sense, assuming that he used a shortcut to reboot. It's the following entries I'm concerned about:

DBLBUFF
IFSHLP
WIN

The first two I can explain as a result of not using NOAUTO in the DOS= line of CONFIG.SYS. That last shouldn't be there unless he's still inside Windows. Also, the size listed for COMMAND is unusually small; only the second one should be that small. Kain: are you doing this from a DOS box in Windows?

If not, then your problem may stem from having too much expanded memory available to the game. Privateer can only reliably handle 16MB of expanded memory. To fix this, change the EMM386.EXE line in the config.sys you use for Privateer to look like this:

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE RAM 16384

Also, can you dump the configuration you use for Privateer in your next message? Sorry this has taken so long.

I remember the HIGH, and UMB parameters. But the NOAUTO I don't remember. What does it do?

NOAUTO prevents the operating system from loading certain drivers into memory that Windows needs in order to operate. Since Windows needs them, you should never have this parameter active in your actual config.sys file, but it's a good thing to have when booting to DOS.

i am just lost now

"Also, can you dump the configuration you use for Privateer in your next message?"

as in what? what i put in install or Config.SYS?

the thing is that it can't find the CD in
pure Dos with the message JEMM unloaded.

hmmmm i put in the "DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE RAM 16384"
code as soon as i loaded it from dos this
came up.

Ems386 not installed-protected mode software
running

(the name of my sound blaster)

invaild drive specification (this twice there)

can't find Jemm overlay file.

As in config.sys and autoexec.bat. I hope you're using a shortcut or a boot disk; be sure to give me the configuration of whichever one you're using. To get the configuration of a shortcut, right-click on the shortcut and hit Properties. Then, hit the Program tab, followed by the Advanced button.
