Privateer freezes after splash screen

This isn't related to the "garbled text and pausing before splash screen comes up" issue that is stickied.

I get the splash screen fine, and see all the modules loading.

Then it will get to loading thrust0018.png, and it will just stop. I've let it sit for a few minutes, and nothing.

AMD Athlon 1.6 ghz
1 gig PC2700 ram
ATI x800 Pro card
Sound Blaster Audigy
Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback joystick

lastest drivers on all.

Well, trying windowed mode I found out why it was hanging there.

Seems my firewall picked up that vegastrike.exe is trying to connect to TCP port 4364 of my PC.

What does it need that for?
 
This is related to another of the sticky threads (thanks for checking out the one about the initial "freeze" btw)

Vegastrike connects to itself to send sound data, and for some reason the windows firewall blocks connections from 127.0.0.1, which is your computer. That is entirely unnecessary, if something on your system has ill intentions, you are already hosed.
