I'm releasing 009 here to the forums

ftp://ftp.wcnews.com/files/fans/priv_009b.exe

we're waiting until the wcnews.com guys copy it to their high capacity ftp before releasing it to the world... first come first get here ;-)
let me know if there are any bugs...
this is a feature freeze however... only bugs should be reported...
we also changed the campaign a lot (adding sounds and the like) it needs to be retested

old save games WILL NOT work with this version....

I'll release mac and linux versions soon

If you download the above link before it was called 009a you need to patch it by downloading http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/users/hellcatv/campaign_lib.py
and putting it in the modules/ directory, overwriting your old broken campaign_lib.py
that should allow you to get sandoval's artifact on new detroit
To land on perry you need this patch http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/users/hellcatv/Perry.system and download that file to sectors/Gemini/ folder overwriting the old Perry.system

If you downloaded 009a you just need Perry.system
sorry folks for all these bugs

Glitch? IT AIN'T SERIOUS THOUGH.

I wouldn't call it a bug, but as you play for an hour or three things seem to build up.

As an example:
Commodities get scarse.
Prices DROP big time.
Confeds start lining up. Not the Militia, just the Confeds.
Missions don't go away. The mission computer starts looking really crowded.
You complete them and the same mission is there, but it gets harder to do.
You get paid to do it again just fine, but the mission pay goes up commensurate with the difficulty.

I did a Pirate Rescue and got paid 20 some odd thou. to take him to a Confed paradigm? OK.

Then the faction that was angry with you for doing the rescue stays angry and follows you 'til you save, quit and reload.

At which point everything is back to normal.

There was a point where I had 4 Confed paradigms at Achilles, 2 at Hector and 2 at Troy. Troy system looked more like Perry than Perry! And it isn't just the capital ship, it's all the support vessels and escorts, too!

And when you face the Pirates, you face them in droves. Not one or two, but five or six. You have help, and you'd better be a good shot, or the Confeds will take your kill away. And let me tell you, they're getting to be GOOD shots.

I'm confused as to why I have two sets of armour. Plastisteel AND Tungsten.
And why can I get more than one ECM package?

Other than that, Lookin Good. SS seems to be fixed. I can run any of the sound files now.

I noticed some frame drops when I was mixing it up with a bunch of Confed and Pirates. Enough to make things Jump fast, but it stayed UP with the game and didn't leave you helpless. You just have to adjust to what seems to be faster response from the controls. You jump to the next set of frames instead of YOU being stuck on the last frame while the computer is ahead of you. It's a switch.

So far, so good.

Proximity seems to be just a tad off, but not bad now. You NEED the better radar, it seems. DON'T take the less expensive Radar's word for things.

Some things are different and some things are the same. All in all, IT ROCKS!

I'll download and give it a try over this upcoming week. It's a pity that my old savegames won't work... I guess I need to earn my way up to my Centurion. Back to the good old Tarsus for a while, I suppose.

Uh, Houston, we seem to have a problem. . .

We have achieved system hang.

<sob>
I made it to New Detroit and I was accepting the artefact after running a VERY lucrative rescue op. and as he presented the artefact FREEZE.

I'll dig up your e-mail address and send the files. Rar is ok as I remember.

Wonder what I did? I don't THINK I was playing it too long. ;-)

Anywho, look for the files. I'll copy them while it's still hung up. Then I'll copy them after I get it free. (Set)_1.txt before TaskMan (Set)_2.txt after TaskMan IF the file sizes differ.

P.S.

SISGL -- My Video Driver -- threw a warning as I was backing out of the programme.

WARNING:
Can't create a new surface out of Video Memory.
This Program will exit.

Prolly me and not you.

NEXT ERROR
It's a video read. Not surprising.

The instruction at "0x690c8f2d" referenced memory at "0x00000d80". The memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program.

P.P.S.

TaskMan was clear of all game files. It unloaded fine after the system hang.

Game Quirk

If you want the mega-credits some of the rescue missions earn you but you don't want to kill someone in the process. . . Remember, I'm the runaway type of player. That way you should make it to the end of the game, right? AND you don't want to shoot down a confed or militia ship, right?

Okay, the ONLY way you aren't going to be hounded to the ends of the galaxy by the crack pilots after you delivered your mission cargo, the ejected pilot, OR the entire faction for that matter, is to save the game, and load the save-game. You don't have to exit the programme.

0.9

Just started playing 0.9 and i just asumed that 0.9 would run on its own, so i deleted 0.8 and when i tried to play the latest version it came up with various dll's that were missing, i thought it might have been something to do with my drivers but i had the latest versions, then i re-installed 0.8 and everything worked fine, is this going to be the same for 1.0, what i mean is that are we going to have to have serveral different versions of the games installed to get it to run?

I know you said that you were going to cut down on in system missions but I have had fly round each base in turn to get one lousy in system patrol, is this just make the game harder?

Well, I can't say about the files that were missing, but I've been assured that a new, improved and working version will be up soon.

In the interim:

It took me a while to get out of Troy. AND it was close to the original in hustling to make a cr. So I kind of like the idea of very little in system. I know it irks some of you, but I think it fits with the "Fiction" standpoint and -- to me atleast -- draws me further into the game. Yes it's different, but it's the same, only better, IMO.

understood

yeah im sure it will make the game a lot more interesting, its just after being spoilt with sooo many missions in 0.8 it will take a little while to get used to, if this is somewhere else in the forum could you direct me, but what actually has been added to make the game so much bigger?

Recall how in 008 you could talk to bartenders and most of the time they were silent, their only communication via text? For 009, audio has been aded for all the bartenders' blurbs, which makes for a lot of extra .wav files. Some sort of compression may be in order, but for the moment, having all bartender speech == bigger download. (other voices have been added as well, in the guilds, campaign etc)

it should all be fixed in 009a
here's to hopin!

[MO]And the 1000th post on our little forum was made by, of all people, hellcat. No prize I guess ;) [/MO]

Selecting high-quality fonts (now accessible in setup) makes the font used on the base computer screens small (10pt).
Didn't happen in 008.
Videocard is GF4 Ti4800SE, driver version 66.81, OS XP SP1.
[Edit] I'm using high-quality font as the normal font is difficult to read (see attachment); don't know if that's normal or not.

On gameplay: was attacked by a pirate Talon, while trying to survive was scanned by a Militia patrol (twice); the Militia did not engage the pirate. I forgot to see if they were far away though.. but they did scan me, which in the original happened on relatively close range I think. Thankfully they didn't attack me for *not* maintaining speed and course :)

Thanks for the great remake, I enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the original :)

it's twelve point--maybe we can give the user access to a variety of point sizes
That would be nice, as a lot of people find that at 1600x1200 fonts are too small in many games.
