In P the guns and afterburners draw energy from the generators (e bar), and the jumpdrive from the fuel (F bar).
In all the others WC Games the guns draw energy from generators (e bar) and the afterburners from fuel (f bar)

What types of engines or somethig uses this ships, in WCIV the dragon with M/AM has unlimited afterburners, but i don´t think that the ships of P have M/AM engines so i don´t know
Post your theories or facts Please
Thanks

There are several types of engines in Wing Commander...

Older Kilrathi fighters (the Dralthi II comes to mind) use nuclear engines -- pure atomic powerplants that last only a few hours.

Confed ships, aside from the Excalibur and Lance, use Ion drives -- the Lance and Excalibur have matter/anti-matter powerplants. All these ships have bussard intakes... the difference is that the Lance can make much better use of the in-taken hydrogen, allowing it unlimited afterburner fuel...

What about more recent, yet smaller fighters? The Arrow, for example, what would it use? I seem to remember having heard that M/AM is too large and heavy for most fighters, hence the Excal and Lance, but do we know about the little stuff?

I understand but why in P you have unlimited afterbuners ???
and why don´t put these engines (modificated) to fighters of WC3 and WC4 era (BTW P is set in 2669, the same of WC3, why not use, in example, the Centurion engine in a Hellcat ??

Perhaps the military doesn't use the Priv style afterburners because they don't want to waste power they could use on weapons on afterburners. I actually always wanted a regular kind of afterburner in Priv, so I could afterburn and shoot with some effectivness.

Most likely it's a difference in engine style, of course. The military engines are going to be geared more towards conserving energy for the weapons to use. So, for afterburners, which arent' in contstant use, they can use a compressed propellant fuel or whatever. In Priv, tho they are warships after a fashion, they are all ultimately merchant ships, and are going to need to run away more than other ships, so they're not so concerned with keeping the energy in the reserves for guns.

Like police cars. Cop cars are really really powerful, they do that so they don't falter in a high speed chase. But those special bits aren't often avaliable for normal cars unless you get the parts and do it your damn self.

a centurion is way bigger than even a dragon. the engines are to big thats why they dont use them on fighters

The ships in Prophecy use ion engines, just like every other Confed ship, excluding the Lance and the Excalibur. Matter/Anti-Matter engines are the same thing used on capships -- and as thus, are very expensive.

(M/AM engines are also what the Privateer ships use, since they're essentially small transports -- that's why their afterburner is tied into their capacitor and their fuel gauge only referrs to jump fuel).

LOAFmeister, on a cap ship, you know roughly the size that'd be needed for the powerplant? Well, lets say... on both a Ranger and a Bengal. See, the Bengal you'd expect that mofo to be more or less dead center, or perhaps towards the rear. Regardless, it'd be huge. A Ranger, I'd guess, would need less power, but there doesn't seem to be so much room for large plants like that.

Now, if they set up a M/AM plant in a ring collider configuration, that'd be a little more easily explained, but even that would have to be relatively compact. If they'd used the same type of plant, or perhaps two or three, from a Ranger in a Bengal, perhaps it'd be a smaller ship? Of course it'd need the room for other things, but you know what I mean.

Ideas, thoughts?

I'm not... entirely sure what you mean. The Bengal (second) has five engines directly in the back... the Rangers have three engines in a circle around the back.

They probably include them, yes, but A: that wouldnt count for all the power, I think, and B: even if it did account for it, that only explains fueling the reactor, the scoops aren't the powerplants themselves.

Yes, capships do have bussard ramscoops... and then they use that energy in a matter/anti-matter powerplant..
