Political Compass

OK, here it is:

Economic Left/Right: 6.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.64

I disagree with some of the positions of their site. But it's odd to see NO WORLD LEADER whatsoever on liberal democratic quadrant.

Anyway, I don't think the Pope is a leftist, much less authoritarian. Considering he fought communism for a large period of his life, that seems unlikely.

I also don't think Mandela is as much as a libertarian. Hitler should much more to the left, due to the anti-capitalist aspects of national-socialism. Stalin should also have maxed the authoritarian score. Some of the other ones they measured also appear to be way off.

Hmm...-4.88 and -4.62 That places me about in between the Dalai Lama and Nelson Mandela. Cool, but like you said, I'm not sure as to the accuracy of the compass. I think a political magnet weather-balloon was passing overhead as I answered the questions :p Sure would've been nice to have a 'no opinion' option.

Economic Left/Right: 1.12
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 2.10

(Pretty close to Tony Blair)

I think the survey is fundamentally biased, though - there's a distinctly negative connotation to all of the "unhip" political beliefs.

I agree. For example, one question asks if the primary task of a mother should be to take care of her children. Well, that should be the first task of the mother... and the father! It should habe nothing to do with feminism...

I've taken that poll many times, and my score changes each time. My economic part fluctuates (because I really don't know/care), but I've always been libertarian in various degrees.

Taking the test now. I think the best way to explain myself is individual emails...I honestly prefer either an essay, or the addition of "neither agree nor disagree", since there are probably some questions to which you were middle of the pack.

I think the real problem is that so many of the questions are vague and open to interpretation ... it's more of an inkblot test than an actual quiz.

Economic Left/Right: 3.62
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.82

I've moved rather noticably right and up since my last time. Pretty close to Chopin.

I was about to add my score, but my dad overloaded the circuit...anyway...I'm generally considered a right wing conservative (I'm closer to a moderate these days), yet the test scores me as a left wing libertarian
Economic Left/Right: -4.12, and
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -0.15

Another angle on it...you tend to handle more than a few of the questions on a case-by-case basis, forcing you to choose...eh...whatever

What surprises me is that the test doesn't really capture my political orientation. Although I'm entirely right wing, I am in no way conservative - I am for legalization of drugs and prostitution, for abortion, rabidly atheist and a great supporter of the ACLU. Economically though I couldn't be more right wing - I believe in a completely unregulated market, low or no taxation and a general "every man for himself" view on welfare. So on the one hand I'm what Bill O'Reilly would describe as a leftist moron, but on the other I'm ridiculously right wing. I don't think my result really captured that... It would be interesting to see something like a Kierney test with 4 categories...

Economic Left/Right: -6.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.54

Which leads me to believe that thing is pretty far off, at least on the Economic axis. It was fun though. :p

Economic Left/Right: 6.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -0.82

Wow. I was aware that I've been gradually sliding towards libertarianism, but I didn't realise I'd gone quite that far to the right :p.

Economic Left/Right: -5.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.64

Near the center of the Left/Libertarian Quadrant... if it's correct, there is...

Ah that test... lovely. It might be fairly accurate for the US political system.

I took part in a poll in a German forum based on that test and guess what *ALL* of us had been in the lower left quadrant (Libertarian, Left), even those who though of themselves as being conservative and right Not that I have a problem to be in one Quadrant with Gandi (in fact of all people mentioned in the charts I'd prefer those in that quadrant), but I am most certainly not a sympathisant of the Green party.

Note: The left right scale is not the same as is commonly used when saying leftwing party or rightwing party.

Economic Left/Right: -3.12
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.33

While I do agree with the main idea of a political compass, I think the questions were slightly more right-wing and conservative oriented.
That said, I think my score is more or less correct.

Keep in mind, any such tests are very open to debate. I mean, look at the politicians they place on the right side of the graph. Blair, a right-winger? Yeah, right.

As I said right wing and economic right aren't the same thing. And where else would you put Blair? Economic left he isn't I'd dare to say.

Economic Left/Right: -7.50
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.69

Ya-HAH! More left and libertarian than ol' Gandhi!
AND more left/lib than everything else recorded by that site!
