Pilot Awards Ceremony

Seventh Part of the Seal
Its time to declare the winners of the prestigious and the not so prestigious award.
So lets get started...
______________________________________________________
Most times run away from a fight.

Award goes to: Maniac (WC2)

"I think I hear my mom calling, bye!"
______________________________________________________
Most times shot through his own wingman to get a kill.

Award goes to: Hobbes

Pissed me off beyond belief in SO1
______________________________________________________
Most times getting shot by moving into wingleaders line of fire.

Award goes to: Stingray

I would release a salvo only for stingray to get in the way at the last second!
_______________________________________________________
Took the longest to kill an enemy:

Award goes to: Spirit (WC2)

I suspect it was the fault of the Epee, but it took her forever to kill one foe.
________________________________________________________
Ejection award

Goes to: Hobbes

*Every mission in WC2 he ejects... EVERY ONE!
________________________________________________________
Most hated wingman.

Award goes to: Knight

Lousy, useless for anything other then getting blasted.
_________________________________________________________
Best Wingman.

Award goes to: Jazz (SWC)

I've never had more fun flying with a wingman. Even just listening to the coms. But he's tough enough to back it up.
_________________________________________________________
Most annoying wingman.

Award goes to: Paladin (SWC)

"They got me with me kilt down!" ... come on... talk about cheesy.
__________________________________________________________
Wingman not flown with enough.

Award goes to: Roulette

Tough, and compitent. You do not fly with her more then once or twice though.
___________________________________________________________
Most insubordinate wingman

Award goes to: Maniac

No matter what WC, he NEVER follows orders!

Nice, and mostly true.
However there is ONE WC in witch Maniac actually follows orders in 3 missions :-) - wc3 in kilrath system

Well IIRC in both the dos and KS versions (not sure about dos, to long since i played it) both maniac and flash started to obey orders after jumping to Kilrath system - i mean all orders including form on my wing. Only people got used to them not obeying. that they didn.t care to give them any orders :D

I'd add one: Most underrated : Shadow

She often got a kill or two for me, and never shot me or got in my line of fire. I always found her competant enough - plus, she rarely if ever got shot down, meaning she always drew fire without getting herself killed!

...except, of course, for that one time... but, you know, cinematics don't count, right??:D

Special award

most frustraiting wingman
- seether -
he was good, while you wanted him to be usless, he was as obeing as Maniac and you couldn't shot him down

For wingman not flown with enough, I'd have to say Mutant from Prophecy. I loved his comms and I really wanted him to come along for the ride in secret Ops.

As I'm sure Delance will back me up. Primate (WC4) is *the* best wingman. He's got good stats, he listens to orders and he's funny.

Wingman not flown with enough.

Award goes to: Roulette

Tough, and compitent [sic]. You do not fly with her more then once or twice though.
I think most missions in Prophecy, your wingmen are randomly picked from the squadron you're in. I recall flying with Roulette quite a few times.

Incidentally, I've been trying to destroy the CIC by downloading the entire season of academy (didn't work) and just yesterday I watched the warrior king episode. I don't know if any of you happen to watch Megas XLR, but Dorn plays an invincible robot character in episode 3, and one of his first lines references that episode...

At any rate, that guy was hardly a pilot. And WC2 Hobbes _does_ sound an awful lot like Dorn.

He does fly a Scimitar at the end. :)

I'd be curious to know what the reference was, though - since there's an odd history about the Warrior King...

Speaking of Michael Dorn and Origin - did he end up being the Guardian in Ultima IX? I know they recorded him very early on, before the game changed significantly.

Wingman You Most Wanted to Refuse to Fly With:

Hobbes

WC3 was my first exposure to the Wing Commander Universe. I remember watching the Kilrathi kill those pilots and then Angel in a very gruesome way. Then I see this 'Hobbes' guy looking like a big stuffed animal that I thought didn't fit in. I thought a Kilrathi didn't belong on our side's carrier. Then I didn't like how the main character's reaction basically forced you to be friends with this Kilrathi. I didn't think they'd make him the traitor though since I thought that was too obvious; but I still didn't want to fly with him.

I've grown to accept the WC3 Kilrathi costume and don't think it looks out of place when I replay the game. I guess I just got use to it. When I first played the game though, I thought it gave the game a cheesy feel and wasn't a good way to start it out. I think they should've saved meeting him until later.

So you were playing the game... *backwards* :)?

(You don't find out that Angel was killed until after the Behemoth is destroyed - you would have met Hobbes well before that happened.)
