Passed!

It may not be a big deal but I passed my ASVAB for the Air Force so I'm amost there when it comes to active duty! dam I can't wait, I could be off training as soon as the end of this month or the start of January! It's going to be great to finally serve!

Thanks Loaf, I'm just so looking forward to going active. I plan on making it a life long thing and am going to do the officer thing as well.

Sorry to say this bro, but only the stupidest of the stupid would fail the ASVAB. Back in high school, I took it hungover and still got a perfect 99.

The ASVAB is the least of your worries, and you've gotten over the first hurdle. Worry about staying squared away in DEP and in active duty. And stay out of trouble. We've just had a few incidents over here. One had four SpecWar students were caught trying to enter Mexico drunk and without military IDs, now all four are going to Captain's Mast. Another had an Academy officer caught with a DUI. Needless to say, all of them are as done from the program as a well-done grilled steak.

I know that, I'm just hapy I'm one step closer to being active and when it comes to staying out of trouble I'm not to worried I learned a good amount during my time at AFROTC at ASU. Sucks to be those guys trying to enter Mexico drunk though.

I have to be honest, the Mexico incident is amusing. Basically, don't watch pirate porn drunk or you too might want to infiltrate Mexico to find "buried treasure and booty".

Did you take the ASTB?

That's impressive. What is the ASTB?

Congratulations on passing the ASVAB, Razer.

ASTB means Aviation Selection Test Battery. For example, it's basically the ASVAB for guys trying to get commissions in the Navy and the Marine Corps, and shows projected academic performance of those wanting to fly.

It consists of your basic Officer Aptitude Rating (OAR) which ranges from 20 (dumb as rocks, basically a score that Striker would get if he wanted to become a real Major one day) to 80 (perfect), and three secondary scores: Academic Qualification Rating, Pilot Flight Aptitude Rating, and Flight Officer Flight Aptitude Rating that ranges from 1 (dumb) to 9 (great). 35 OAR and 3/3/3 is passing, and 50 and 5/5/5 are the norm for guys who get picked up.

I took the ASTB a while back. I got a 60 OAR, and 7 AQR /7 PFAR /8 FOFAR. The rating isn't cut and dry like the ASVAB was, there isn't one "big picture" rating combined, you are compared against your peers in many different ways. My OAR score was well above the bell curve, when it came to standard deviation. And going by the charts, putting my AQR and PFAR together put me in the top 12.2% of all turds who took the exam. Putting AQR and FOFAR put me in the top 5.4%.

I know the Navy program is more competitive, they want higher scores, technical degrees, high GPA, etc etc. There's a guy on the boards named NavyFlyer, he's in SNA training right now if I remember.

My girlfriend got selected for the Marine Corps Aviation Program and the competitive ASTB scores needed wasn't that high. She basically passed the ASTB and her flight physical, and pretty much got picked up automatically (cause of the attrition rate at Quantico compared to Pensacola). She declined a Marine commission to go to the Navy when she was done with OCS, as the PLC program was no obligation till you actually put on bars and she no longer wanted to be a jarhead.

If you want to get a jarhead commission, I really recommend PLC or OCC, cause they aren't any obligation till you actually get your bars. Also it leaves you with more options once you are done with college; for example, I wouldn't be here at NSWC if I was contractually obligated for the Corps.

He said he was from AFROTC, so I threw in the ASTB (the USN/USMC equivilent) as a monkey wrench to see if he knew the difference. If he said "yes" to it, then I knew he was B.S.-ing (after the Overmortal "I'm joining the Marinez!!!!" escapade, I want to make sure he was legit). If he said no, then he had some credibility to me.

Too late now, my plan got exposed :(

Cute. Despite the fact that you know nothing about me it was nice of you to predict how well (or perhaps I should say how poorly) I would do on the ASTB test. However since my math abilities, reading comprehension, and mechanical skills are all pretty adequate. I have no doubt I would do well enough in receiving a decent Officer Aptitude Rating if I were so inclined. I might point out that ASTB is only one of many ways to work toward becoming a real life "major." But I'll let you in on a secret, I chose my moniker after the dos game, Major Stryker...not because I wanted to be a "major."

And I must remind you, that you did the same for me. Want me to dig up all the sly marks and direct shots you had at me?

Now that I had my one direct shot at you, I consider us even now. Deal?

Yes and no Psych ,
"I passed my ASVAB for the Air Force" ,
is what Razer92 said , as well as being in AFROTC .

Razer92 , What was your score , if you don't mind my asking .

Well I'm not to happy with my socre which was a 57 but my recruiter said that if I got above 59 I would of had to retake it anyway because anything above 59 they make you retake. He also said that they recently changed the ASVAB to make it harder or something. I wish I got a better score but I also am happy I don't have to spend more of my time doing it again to verify a higher score if I did get a higher score.

Your recruiter's bullshitting you. The higher the better. I scored 99, I certainly didn't retake it.

I think your recruiter's trying to screw you over, send you undesignated because your ASVAB score won't qualify you for the better jobs in the service (cause he won't give you an opportunity to do better).

Razer, I'm picking up bad vibes on your situation. I think you are getting screwed, and being lied to by your recruiter. I consider almost all military recruiters to be complete shitbags. Let's face it, turds are everywhere: at work, at school, at your local burger joint, at the CIC, in the Privateer Remake team (especially), and no doubt the military.

Your recruiter is playing you to be a fool. Remember, his job is to get you into the military anyway he can. It doesn't matter if you got a high-paying top secret job, or swabbing toilets; his only care is getting you in. He has to make his quota: his quota is how many people join the military a month; regardless of jobs.

He's going to lie to you so you can be wrapped up in a false sense of security. He will tell you, "Oh, you can do this, and this and this, just volunteer in boot camp."
It's a lie. And if you do find out he's lying and you report it, guess what? It's his word VS yours. And he will win.

What you can do? You can, first of all, put your foot down. Request everything IN WRITING. You call the shots, you steer yourself. Do not sign till you get what you want IN WRITING. That way, when you go to boot camp or whereever you go, you already have a contract IN WRITING. And they can't do shit to you because you have an obligation from the military of what job you want, yup, that's right, IN WRITING.

And if he doesn't give you what he want: tell him you will walk out and find another recruiter. That is one quota he will lose and another will gain.

The golden rule here: Don't be his bitch.
