P2: The Darkening

All right, here are the updated config files you need to use:

CONFIG.SYS:
DOS=HIGH,NOAUTO
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
FILES=40
BUFFERS=40
<TAISATAP.SYS line>
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\DISPLAY.SYS con=(ega,,1)
Country=972,862,C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\COUNTRY.SYS

AUTOEXEC.BAT:
@ECHO OFF
SET BLASTER=A220 I2 D1 H7 P330 T6
SET CTSYN=C:\WINDOWS
C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\SBLIVE\DOSDRV\SBEINIT.COM
mode con codepage prepare=((862) C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\hebega.cpi)
mode con codepage select=862
LH C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~1\MOUSE\MOUSE.EXE
<MSCDEX line>

That should do it; if not, I have a smaller mouse driver that should work.

Ok, it didn't work

It doesn't recognize the CD drive, and the sound blaster's not working either (from what I read when I strt the MS-DOS mode). Maybe I did something worng...

Anyway, I'll review what I have:

Config.sys
biggrin.gif
EVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE
device=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\display.sys con=(ega,,1)
Country=972,862,C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\country.sys
DEVICHIGH=C:\ATAPI\TASATAP.SYS /D:ATA001

Autoexec.bat:

@C:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~4\NORTON~3\NAVDX.EXE /startup
SET BLASTER=A220 I2 D1 H7 P330 T6
SET CTSYN=C:\WINDOWS
C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\SBLIVE\DOSDRV\SBEINIT.COM
mode con codepage prepare=((862) C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\hebega.cpi)
mode con codepage select=862

Dosstart.bat:

C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\SBLIVE\DOSDRV\SBEINIT.COM

LH C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~1\MOUSE\MOUSE.EXE

LH C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\MSCDEX.EXE /E /D:ATA001

Now here's what I've put in the MS-DOS prompt lines:

Config.sys:

DOS=HIGH,NOAUTO
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
FILES=40
BUFFERS=40
C:\ATAPI\TAISATAP.SYS
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\DISPLAY.SYS con=(ega,,1)
Country=972,862,C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\COUNTRY.SYS

Autoexec.bat:

@Echo OFF
SET BLASTER=A220 I2 D1 H7 P330 T6
SET CTSYN=C:\WINDOWS
C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\SBLIVE\DOSDRV\SBEINIT.COM
mode con codepage prepare=((862) C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\hebega.cpi)
mode con codepage select=862
LH C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~1\MOUSE\MOUSE.EXE
LH C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\MSCDEX.EXE /E /D:ATA001

Any ideas what went wrong?

The line loading your CD-ROM driver is incorrect...

it should be:
DEVICEHIGH=C:\ATAPI\TAISATAP.SYS /D:ATA001
(I'm not sure about the switch and I'm too lazy to look it up)

Well, you're missing the second E in DEVICEHIGH for your actual CONFIG.SYS, and the line in your DOS prompt config.sys should be exactly the same as the line in your actual config.sys

Wow... the switch was right (I really should have looked at the other config.sys

).

The missing D was probibly a copy/paste error.

. Onlt I can miss out on something like that...

Anyway, after I fixed the config.sys line, I tried installing the game from the MS-DOS option from the start menu, and got everything to work, excpt the J-stick. The game runs a bit fast too, but I think I can handle it (unless there's a way to slow down it a bit). Now I have a MS force feedback pro, any ideas how I can make it to workin the game?

And as for the DOS prompt shortcut, it's not working right: The sound card (SB live! or live! value, I'll cheak it) isn't recognized when I'm using the shortcut.

Well, if it works without the shortcut, then don't use the shortcut. As for the joystick: it's hopeless; joystick makers these days don't think about DOS when making their joysticks.

Luckly, I still have my old joystick, so it might work.

But there's a way to slow it down? After a few time I played it, I'm not so sure if I could enjoy the game (it was fun at the start, but it's getting kinda annoyinmg).
