I just sent for a used 7-book collection from the 'Lost Regiment' series. Anyone have any experience with them?

I never got into the Lost Regiment stuff, but it's probably his most famous pre-Gingrich series. It's definitely a labor of love on his part, the story of a Union regiment that gets sent to a War World-style war world. I believe there's nine books in the series now.

I do recommend his Star Voyager Academy/Article 23/Prometheus three book series, though. The first (two?) books are very simplistic the-Civil-War-is-in-space! stories and then it ends very well in the third.

I've read the first two books in the "Prophet of Ice" series. They're an interesting but shallow Dune rip-off, very, very violent, set in a crazy frozen-ocean-with-skiing-boats-with-cannons world, where all knowledge is kept by crazy monastic orders. There is the Saint-boat-builder order, the Saint-Gunner order, so on.

It's not bad, but not really worth the time.
