OK, Privateer2

Grasshopper

Spaceman
So I just finished playing Privateer 2 for the 3rd time. My question is this - does anybody understand the dialogue between Lev A and whatever his name is when he is explaining all on Hades (in the pit)? Or why C. Walken will appear in any movie/game for a 1.99? Help, mainly on the former. I will say this at least, for 2-3 years, priv2 would not work on any system I owned. But for some f'd up reason, it now works great (plus the slowdown program) on my system.

I digress. What was said between LA and British guy from Titanic when they were on Hades? Thats the q.

Well, if you mean the first conversation between them at the start of the game, the bartender is explaining the "booth system" to Lev. The booth, if you will recall, is where you do your basic game functions such as upgrading/trading in your ship, trading commodities, hiring wingmen and cargo ships, and checking news reports and data archives.

No, I think he means the convo where Hassan takes Lev to the prisoner pits on Hades and they talk to some other guy who was being held prisoner.

I wouldn't know what that was all about either, since last time I played Priv 2's storyline missions I didn't really understand any english.

Hehe, didn't you just complain in another thread about P2 having a silly storyline? :p

Yeah, but it only takes one guy's stepping on his brother's tentacles to ruin a storyline. :)

The prisoner on Hades (Rhinehart) is the person who explains the game's entire backstory. It's kind of an important conversation, I suppose. From the Official Guide:

Rhinehart tells all: Your real name is Vell Ricaud II. You are one of the sons of Vell Ricaud, and heir to a company called RIcaud Interplanetary. You have a younger brother named Sar. While your father was alive, you developed the amyotrophic ossicular degeneration (AOD) virus and were placed in a crypod until a cure could be found. This broke your mother's heart, and she died.

Your brother, Sar, never forgave you for your mother's death. WHen your father died, your brother went completely off the deep end and transformed himself into Kronos and Ricaud Interplanetary into the Kindred. He has since become addicted to anti-aging drugs, which, when used to excess, actually accelerate the aging process and cause insanity.

I really hate the fact that you can't turn on the subtitles in Priv2. It really needs them. But i liked the game a lot.

Hi you guys,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but, as you can see, I'm quite new here. Also I don't have much WC experience. I played WC 3+4 and Privateer when I was young and came back to gaming over Privateer Gemini Gold, about which I read in the Ct, one of Germanys most recognized computer magazines.
When I finished GG I felt like trying Privateer 2: The Darkening and now I kind of stick. The storyline works fine (which rhymes;) ) but i can't earn any money. Ok, I get this 50 creds bountys when I kill someone but I can't get any bounty, patrol or cargo missions. When I visit the blackboard it offers me Wingman and Transposrt ships for hire but no missions. And I don't have enaoug money to trade :( )
I'd really appreciate it if anybody who knows more about the game than me could help me out of this (or could tell me the right place to ask such questions).
Thanks in advance :)

Hi, sorry for double posting but for some reason i can't edit my post.
I still don't get any missions and i really start to wonder what Privateer 2: The Darkening has to do with WC at all. No Condfederation...no Kilrathi.... I tried to look it up in wcnews' Encyclopedia, but I still didn't get it... :(

EDIT:

Found the answer to my second question:

The game took place about 120 years after Wing Commander IV in an isolated pocket of space known as the Tri-System.

Seems that it has nothing to do with WC at all...

It's very much a Wing Commander game. If you're going to go searching the archives, you can find lots of threads where people list off many of the links established throughout. Missions don't show up on the board until after you've been playing a while. Start by checking out some of the cargo haul routes.
