Hi, all. I've been both excited about Star Citizen and despairing because I have no computer that can run it, but it also made me go back to a couple of games I hold very dear to me: StarLancer and Wing Commander. I thought it would be a good idea to drop in and register here. <o/

I've been looking at mission editing tools for WC1. Sure, I have Wing Commander Academy but there's just something about WC1... anyway, I can't seem to figure out how to set up qbasic on DOSBox in a way to make it work, though I haven't had enough time to mess with it.

I'm currently a junior in college, going through final exams, so I won't be terribly active for this first week or so. There's a chance I may not be very active after, either, given how some of my classes are going (I hate some of my computer science classes) but hello to all nonetheless.

Let me be the first to welcome you! Always good to see a friendly ship!

Did you take a look at the WCPedia directory for WC1? You can view the editing tools here. It's a good place to start.

Welcome aboard Enzo03! Like you, I don't own a computer for the $100+ game I just bought, but I have put my system wish list together and HOPEFULLY the hardware will be below $500 by the time beta comes out. It has been a good year for me and Wing Commander. New Chris Roberts space sim announced, I finally bought a copy of False Colors (currently on Chapter 4), and I upgraded my computer to where it can now run Wing Commander Saga!

Indeed, that's where I found out about the tools. :)

Thanks, guys!

Enzo> I started building a WC1 editor a few years back, using the qbasic editor by Mario as a start point.

There are several threads about it that you may find useful...

There's also the first experimental run of my editor hosted here...

I wrote it in something called playbasic. It's probably not what you're intending to use, but as one basic is similar to another, if you feel my source code could prove valuable to you, let me know and I'll try and get it to you.

Looks like I've got some more reading to do. :)

I've never really liked BASIC (cept for 10 goto 10), probably because VB was my first programming language. Still, there's no reason I can't pick up another dialect of it. I used to know LibertyBASIC and I currently program in various other languages such as C++, Java, and even dabbled a bit in MIPS Assembly (hate it).

When I looked up playbasic, it seems there is a limited "learning edition" available and a retail version. Am I gonna have to pay?
